Why is it so much easier to give a gift than to receive one? We love being the person with something to offer. We enjoy choosing the right gift and watching someone’s face light up when they open it. But being on the receiving end can be a bit harder. Receiving can make us feel dependent and sometimes uncomfortable. This Sunday, we turn to Mark 10, where Jesus points to children – who the disciples try to wave off – as the perfect example of how to receive the kingdom of God. Children don't try to balance a ledger or pay back a gift; they simply receive what is offered. What might we learn from those who know how to freely open their hands to God?

Join us at 11:00AM in the Sanctuary for a powerful morning of praise, inspiration, and community. We’re thrilled to welcome guest preacher Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti, District Superintendent for Yadkin Valley, who will share a message titled “Everything That Has Breath” inspired by Psalm 150.

Mark holds degrees from the University of Florida, Duke Divinity School, and Wesley Theological Seminary. Mark has been an adjunct faculty member of Hood Theological Seminary, and currently teaches with Duke Divinity’s Advanced Course of Study.His podcast, “Object Lesson,” can be found online.

Today our amazing youth ministry kicked off the 2026-2027 season of Love Thy Neighbor (LTN) serving 260 meal.

LTN is a ministry of outreach to those who find themselves homeless and marginally housed in downtown Winston-Salem. We invite our downtown neighbors to join us for a hot lunch, BINGO, and fellowship once a month during the school year. We also offer a free medical clinic and pharmacy that provides care and help for our neighbors experiencing illness, pain, and who long to be seen, heard, known, and loved. Our hope is that, as they find Christ-like hospitality, love, and grace here at Centenary, our neighbors will also find a worshiping community to be a part of.

We share this ministry as an expression of Christ’s unconditional love for all of us. Our hope is for this ministry to transform our community through the love of Jesus and draw others into the presence of the living God and into serving Christ.

How do we thank God for all that God has given us? The beauty of creation, family and friends, the very breath we take, the work of our minds and hands … all of it is a gift from a generous Creator. How do we even begin to say thank you? This Sunday we will explore Psalm 116, where the psalmist asks that same question: "What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me?" (v.12-13) The psalmist’s answer may surprise us all. Join us in worship as we explore Psalm 116 and what it means to live a life guided by gratitude.
