Planning differs by person and by situation. We choose to plan out vacations, projects, even dinner menus, but many of us avoid planning for the end of life. It’s an unavoidable event, in which we are all key participants.

Creating a plan helps your loved ones follow your wishes during a time of grief, ensuring the preservation of the ministries you care about most.

Today is Clergy Appreciation Day, and October is Clergy Appreciation Month. We are thankful for the pastors, chaplains, and ministry leaders who walk with us through every season of life.

At MMFA, we are grateful for the Moravian clergy who serve with such devotion, caring for congregations and encouraging generosity in all they do.

Take a moment to thank the clergy in your life. A note, a call, or a simple “thank you” can lift a spirit more than you know.

Today is DAF Day, but any day is a good day to talk about donor-advised funds. If you have been curious about how giving through a DAF works, we would love to help you explore it!

A DAF can offer real flexibility. You can make a gift and receive a tax deduction, then take your time recommending grants to the ministries and causes you care about. Some donors combine several years of planned giving into one year to maximize their tax benefit. A DAF also keeps things simple, with one place for your giving records instead of a stack of receipts. It can also become a family legacy, giving children and grandchildren a way to take part in generosity, too.

In collaboration, the Board of World Mission (BWM), Moravian Ministries Foundation in America (MMFA) and the Commission on Congregational Development (CCD) have created a new micro-grant opportunity for congregations, with preference for youth planned and led projects. Projects should engage in the areas of Care for Creation, Care for Each Other and Care for Right Relationships, themes from the “Everyone Wants a Better World” curriculum written by the BWM Team based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We encourage you to gather youth, young adults, congregational leaders, members, and community partners to listen, dream, and imagine what God may be calling you to create together.

The strongest proposals will demonstrate meaningful collaboration. Collaboration might include youth working alongside congregational boards, partnerships between neighboring congregations, or projects developed with schools, nonprofits, or community organizations. We hope to see projects that connect generations, ministries, congregations, and community organizations in ways that build relationships.

Up to ten $1,000 grants will be available. Priorities for the grant application are:
- meaningful collaboration among at least two groups, ministries, congregations, or community partners (each initiative will need one sponsoring organization to submit the grant application)
- active participation of project partners in planning and implementation
- focus on one of the three areas: Care for Creation, Care for Each Other, or Care for Right Relationships
- strong preference for projects that are led or co-led by youth and young adults
- opportunities to build lasting relationships and ongoing ministry beyond the grant period

Key Dates:
- Grant applications open on January 1, 2027
- Deadline for applications is February 28, 2027
- Grants will be awarded by April 5, 2027

This past weekend, Laura had the opportunity to visit Our Savior's and Berea Moravian Churches in Minnesota. She spent Sunday worshipping with both congregations and met with the Berea joint board.
