We are called to live our faith in all aspects of our lives, but – when it comes to voting – this can be difficult. During this election season, immerse yourself in the worldwide Church’s life and teaching. Gain a fuller understanding of the Church’s commitment to a consistent ethic of life which guides us to be advocates for a variety of issues related to life and human dignity. f course, not every issue is morally equivalent, not every proposal is equally a direct moral threat, nor can commitment to one issue excuse indifference to the rest. The complexities of political process in a diverse society require prudence. We will not be telling you for whom or what to vote. Rather, to inform your vote we encourage prayer, study, shared discernment, listening to those who are most vulnerable, and drawing closer to the sacred heart of Jesus, which burns with love of all humanity.

Steward Saint: Our Lady of Sorrows
Feast Day: September 15th
Ever since Simeon’s prophecy that a sword would pierce her heart, Mary had known that the day of sorrow would come. Standing at the foot of the cross, Mary gave her Son the gift of her loving presence. Hearing Jesus hand her over to John, the beloved disciple, she gave him up for the salvation of the world. St. Bernard says of Mary, “we rightly call you more than martyr, since the effect of compassion in you has gone beyond the endurance of physical suffering.”

Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: on the day following the dedication of the Basilica of the Resurrection, which was erected over the Holy Sepulchre, the Holy Cross is exalted and honored as the trophy of Christ’s Paschal victory and the sign which is to appear in the heavens, announcing to the whole world his Second Coming.

Please keep the men in the permanent deacon formation program in your prayers as they begin a new semester of formation classes today. The 27 men from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Diocese of Covington are in their second year of the three-year formation program at MTSM and, God-willing, will be ordained to the diaconate in Spring 2028.
