Due to the unpredictability of the weather forecast, and rain and freezing temperatures overnight, St. Jude's will not hold a Sunday service tomorrow, January 25th.

Metropolitan Community Church Condemns U.S. Incursion in Venezuela (for immediate release)

The leader of Metropolitan Community Churches said the incursion of United States forces into Venezuela was an excessive, ill-timed, and duplicitous overreach.

“This flagrant act of violent incursion into another State sits starkly alongside the Christmas message of the birth of the Prince of Peace,” said Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, moderator of MCC churches worldwide. “My prayers are with the Venezuelan people, as they seek to build a just and equitable society for all.”

Eggleston said the justifications offered for this event were disingenuous from the start.

“First, it was about combatting the illicit drug trade, in which Venezuela is a very minor player,” Eggleston said. “Then, it was about human rights, and there’s no argument the Maduro regime was deserving of removal; that, however is the right and responsibility of the Venezuelan people, not another State, acting without the knowledge or consent of its own politicians. Then, it was about restoring U.S. ‘property’ that had allegedly been taken by Venezuela. Finally, it was about the seizure of Venezuela’s vast oil reserves – and perhaps in that last one there is some truth, albeit still no justification.

“We continue to pray for peace, but also for the rule of international law to be respected the world over,” Eggleston said. “When nations run amok and abuse or overutilize military might, we are all less safe and the mission of Christ is further eroded.”
