Cursillo STL An encounter with Christ and a Model for Christian living. Cursillo, in this context, means "a short course in Christianity."

About Us...
Cursillo (pronounced cur-SEE-yo) is a Spanish word meaning "short course"; it might be best described as a seminar. It begins with a weekend, starting on a Thursday evening and continuing until Sunday evening. The weekend consists of daily celebration of the Mass, visits to the Blessed Sacrament, talks, meditations, and good old-fashioned Christian fellowship. The goal of the weekend i

s to empower the attendee to become a Christian leader in each of his or her environments. Notice that Cursillo begins with a weekend. At the end of the weekend, the attendee begins his or her Fourth Day. This Fourth Day consists of the rest of one's life. After encountering Jesus Christ in such a special way on the Cursillo weekend, the attendee returns home with the challenge of remaining focused on Him in all facets of life. Two tools are used to achieve this goal:

GROUP REUNION
A regular, preferably weekly, gathering of a group of 3 to 6 friends. These friends share their experiences and activities of the past week, and the ways in which they encountered Jesus Christ since they last met. Special emphasis is placed on Piety, Study, and Action. ULTREYA
A weekly or monthly gathering together of all Group Reunions in an area to share prayers and songs and snacks. At each gathering, one member gives a witness talk about how our Lord is currently present in his or her life. Attendees on Cursillo weekends are sponsored by other members of the movement. If you live within the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and you think Cursillo might be for you, feel free to attend the monthly Ultreya meeting nearest you.

We ask our Cursillo community to please pray for the repose of the soul of Jeff Banken, husband of fellow Cursillista Amy Banken, and for Amy and their family during this time of loss.

Amy and Jeff were very active in the Cursillo Movement locally before moving to Dexter, Missouri, and many in our Cursillo family will remember them with great affection.

Join us for a Cursillo Workshop Day on Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM at St. Raymond–St. Elizabeth.

It will be a beautiful day of prayer, talks, Mass, & community as we gather together to grow in friendship, faith, & our Cursillo charism.

Please bring a potluck item to share for lunch, and stay for Vigil Mass at 4:00 PM.

Fourth guest priest announcement! Fr. Jacob Wessel is joining Fr. Foy on the 10th Annual Katy Trail Pilgrimage for one day!

This will be Fr. Wessel’s first time on the Katy Trail Pilgrimage, but he may have been hoping to be invited. Well, the Holy Spirit made it happen, & we are very excited to walk with him, pray with him, & hear his Marian talk based on one of the Sorrowful Mysteries.

The full guest priest lineup is still in process, so stay tuned for the final schedule.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of fellow Cursillista Sharen Gettinger, who entered eternal life on July 15, 2026.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, from 8:00–9:30 AM at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ozora, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Please keep Sharen’s husband, Raymond, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, & Cursillo community in your prayers.

Longtime Cursillista Tim Shanahan passed away on July 21. Tim was a deeply spiritual man & an active member of the St. Louis Cursillo Movement for many years. His commitment to friendship & faith remained strong throughout his life, & he continued grouping until the week before his death.

A Mass will be celebrated for Tim on Wednesday, July 29, at 10:00 AM at Mary Queen & Mother Center, 7601 Watson Road, St. Louis, MO 63119.

Please keep Tim, his family, his group members, & all who loved him in your prayers. May his soul, & the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

My son, Stephen Hern, is in the Navy & is being sent to Bahrain, an island off the coast of Saudi Arabia.

He leaves tomorrow, 7/23, for two years there. Prayers for his safety & for all the military protecting our freedom.
