7 TOOLS TO HELP YOU KEEP GOING WHEN LIFE GETS HARD

Expect suffering. Jesus was direct about it in John 16:33: "In this world you will have tribulation."

Know that God uses it. Paul writes in Romans 5:3-4 that "suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope."

Consider the people who've gone before you. Hebrews 12 calls them a "great cloud of witnesses." They made it through. So can you.

Look at Jesus. He fixed His eyes on the joy ahead and endured the cross. We endure the same way.

Know there's honor in it. God has chosen to trust you with a hard assignment.

Fix your eyes on eternity. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:17 that "this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory." You're not enduring for nothing.

Cling to community. Bear one another's burdens. Weep with those who weep.

You were never meant to endure alone.

YOU CAN KNOW ALL ABOUT JESUS AND STILL MISS HIM

Jesus quoted an old proverb about Himself, and we'd say it this way: familiarity breeds contempt.

The principle behind it is simple. The closer you get to someone, the easier it is to lose respect for them, find fault in them, and take them for granted.

This happened to Jesus. The people who grew up with Him couldn't see who He really was.

Familiarity can work on us the same way. We can know all about Jesus and still take Him for granted.

Have we grown so familiar with Jesus that we've stopped seeing Him for who He really is?
