Church State Council

Church State Council The Church State Council is a non-profit educational, advocacy and legal services ministry of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The Council serves the five western states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah. The Council upholds the principles of liberty of conscience and religion and the separation of church and state, and protects the rights of people of all faiths to accommodation for their religious beliefs and practices in the workplace. We are committed to the principle of freedom of thought and belief as

a gift of God. We believe, too, that this freedom extends not only to acts of worship but to the expression of faith through charity and service. Hence, we work vigorously to protect and defend the rights of both individuals, and religious associations, charities and ministries.

Historian Kevin Burton writes that "Today, racism and religious intolerance are most clearly expressed through the lens of white Christian nationalism. This political project promotes, either implicitly or explicitly, an ideology of white Christian supremacy in national politics. It is premised upon the notion that America was founded as a Christian nation and that Judeo-Christian values should be enforced through American law. This philosophy has a long history in the United States but now seems to be at the height of its power with strong support in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of American government..."

Christian Nationalism, Anti-Millerite Violence and the Adventist Witness Racism and Religious Intolerance  In the United States, racism and religious intolerance have always coexisted. Historians have specifically shown the unfortunate truth that these forms of intolerance have plagued the Chr...

Jesus never called the church to start a campaign to make the Roman Empire Christian, nor did he tell His followers to defend Christianity with political power. What He does call us to do is live with love, serve the poor and the stranger, and defend the marginalized and oppressed.

Isaiah chapter 58 points out the problem but Jesus gives us the answer
