The Seventh-day Adventist Church has passed 24 million members worldwide, according to the advance release of the 2026 Annual Statistical Report from the General Conference. Africa accounted for more than 81% of the church’s net membership growth in 2025.

The new figures come as Adventists worldwide launch OneVoice27, a global evangelistic initiative focused on digital and personal outreach.

Brazilian businessman and philanthropist Milton Soldani Afonso died September 2 in Rio de Janeiro at age 104, according to Brazilian media. Born in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, in 1921, Afonso joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a teenager and later studied at what is now the Adventist University Center of São Paulo (UNASP), helping pay for his education by selling Adventist literature. In 1971, he founded Golden Cross, which grew into one of Latin America’s largest health insurance companies.

Former General Conference president Jan Paulsen says Adventist pastors should not avoid political and social issues that affect the everyday lives of their members.

In a recent interview from the Trans-European Division, Paulsen said church members are exposed to politics and competing values throughout the week, and pastors should be willing to address those realities from the pulpit.

Adventist Health completed the largest technology transition in its history on August 30, moving all 27 hospitals and more than 440 clinics in California, Oregon and Hawaii to a single connected health record through Epic, a widely used electronic health record system for hospitals and healthcare providers. According to an Adventist Health press release, the change allows a patient’s health information to follow them across Adventist Health facilities, giving care teams access to the same record.
