Ozzie Austin is a 2026 recipient of the Charles A. Winans Scholarship from The Grove School. She will receive a $1,000 award. The scholarship was established by Gilbert and Alia Winans in memory of their son, a 1953 graduate of Beaumont High School, who died in a traffic accident on November 6, 1960, while helping a stranded motorist. The Winans were active members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont, and Gilbert Winans was a teacher at Beaumont Junior High School. More than 150 individuals have received scholarships since the award was established. Ozzie will attend the University of California Riverside. She gave the sermon at the 10:00 service on May 17.
