We spend much of our lives working with our hands. We build and repair. We teach and tend. We create, clean, lead, serve, provide, and care. Some of that work is celebrated, while much of it is never seen.
Psalm 90 reminds us that our days are brief, but our God is everlasting. So this prayer ends by placing the work of our hands beneath the favor of God:
“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands.”
On this Labor Day, that is a fitting prayer for whatever work God has given us to do, that we would labor faithfully, serve our neighbors well, and entrust its fruit to Him.
