Year after year, class after class, students from Jesuit high schools across the country flock to Marquette.

"Marquette offers opportunities on campus and in Milwaukee to meet people and find activities that I didn’t see at other colleges,” - Zoran Vignjevic, junior business major.

A top destination in the Ignatian pipeline from secondary to higher education, Marquette University consistently places in the top three (along with Boston College and Georgetown University) among the 28 institutions in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in both applications and enrollment from Jesuit high school students.

Marquette’s Mission Week, an annual event to study, listen, discuss and pray to become better informed and transformed human beings at Marquette University, will move permanently from its usual time in early February to the last week in September, the university announced today. 
 
The new timing coincides with the anniversary of the Society of Jesus’ founding on Sept. 27, 1540, and Family Weekend. The change will begin for the 2026-27 academic year, with Mission Week running from Sept. 27 through Oct. 2.

✝️ Students come to Marquette to explore and expand their faith.  

The Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus recently announced that leads the province in Jesuit vocations since 2000 with 29.  

“This new data suggests what we’ve always known to be true at Marquette: students come to this university to further their education and bolster that education by strengthening their relationship with God,” Rev. Jim Pribek, S.J., Acting Vice President for Mission and Ministry, says.

Rest in Peace, Father Zagone.

🕊️ Marquette University and the University Advancement team mourn the loss of Rev. Fred Zagone, S.J., university chaplain, who was beloved by Marquette University alumni across the world.

Known simply as “Father Fred” to many, he was the ultimate connector and gained his energy by attending hundreds of university events, and even more so in countless interactions with alumni during life’s most meaningful moments. He fought cancer with courage and humility, attending university events until the very end of his life.

Over the next six weeks, the Lenten season allows us to reflect on our lives and strengthen our relationship with God through fasting, prayer and almsgiving.

Remember we are dust and to dust we shall return.

Al-Salamu’ Alaykum! Peace and blessings for all.

“Fasting is one of the most observed pillars of Islam, with sick, elderly, travelers, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers being exempt. During fasting, Muslims physically feel the value of, and their need for, basic sustenance when they experience the pains of hunger and thirst. Fasting in Islam is not merely about staying hungry or thirsty; it is also about struggling to contain harmful thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, this transformative spiritual experience involves exercising willpower and attaining self-restraint. The experience of hunger in fasting reminds the carnal self of its true nature; that is, its weaknesses and its dependence on God’s grace.”

The campus community is invited to this Examen on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in AMU Monaghan Ballrooms AB.

This Examen — a Jesuit technique of prayerful reflection — will help us to humanize one another through conversation and find resources to guide the way we as individuals and as a community respond to this moment. A Rosary will follow after the Examen.
