“Through that experience, I came to realize that while my GPA and accomplishments are good things, when I placed too much weight on them, they pulled me away from the people I was encountering and the relationships I was building. It was here at Marquette, through those relationships, that I began to learn what it means to love: to be present, to serve, and to recognize the dignity in each person I meet.”

Almost done with preparations! All graduating students, their families, friends, and other guests, along with all faculty and staff of Marquette University are invited to join the annual Baccalaureate Mass celebration!

The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in The Al McGuire Center (770 N. 12th Street). Graduating students are invited to attend in their academic regalia and to participate in the annual procession of graduates at the start of mass; students wishing to do so must arrive by 8:40 a.m.

The Baccalaureate Mass is an annual tradition whereby we give thanks to God for all the blessings of our time in studies here at Marquette and for the many mentors, teachers, friends, colleagues, and companions who have helped to form us on this journey. We invoke God’s blessings upon them and ourselves as we move into the next stage of our lives.

Fr. Gregory O’Meara SJ, Rector of the Jesuit Community and Associate Professor of Law will preside; Fr. Joseph Simmons SJ, Professor of Theology will preach. No tickets or reservations are necessary to participate.

The only active faith practice Maddie Janecek had growing up was going to church with her grandmother in California during a few summers as a child. But a particularly hard day brought her to St. Joan of Arc Chapel where a chance meeting kickstarted the revival of her faith and a journey to receive her sacraments before she graduated.

Marquette senior Maddie Janecek revived her faith during her junior year, just in time to complete her sacraments before she graduated.

This past Wednesday, Marquette University President Kimo Ah Yun joined Ignite as a guest speaker, opening with prayer and reflecting on the faith that guided his journey to Marquette. He shared that, when seeking advice from Jesuits on how to lead well, he was encouraged to pray daily, a practice he has faithfully maintained.

President Ah Yun emphasized the importance of living out his core values in both personal and professional life, speaking candidly about the rewards and challenges of his time as President and Provost. He noted that effective leadership often requires difficult decisions made through intentional deliberation and concluded with his favorite quote from the Gospel of John which guides his life: “Love each other as I have loved you.”

We extend our sincere thanks to President Ah Yun for taking the time to speak with and inspire our students.,
