Calvin, a recent high school graduate, found himself in a homeless situation on 7/7/2025. When he entered Next Step Up, he was feeling a bit nervous as he has never experienced homelessness before. As he settled into shelter, he started working with our case manager on his Individualized Housing Plan. Through case management, we learned that he wanted to go to college. Our case manager assisted Calvin with an application to the University of Akron, along with assisting him through financial aid paperwork. A few weeks later, to Calvin’s surprise, he was accepted into college. While waiting to hear back about the opportunity to pursue on-campus living, Calvin was able to obtain employment to assist him with his daily living costs and the items he would need for school. On 8/20/2025, Calvin successfully transitioned out of Next Step Up, and moved into his college dorm.

Calvin moved into his dorm with items from his Wish List that was generously fulfilled by our friends at Operation Homes of Medina County. Operation Homes provided Calvin with items for school, his dorm room and other daily essentials. He was also sent with a Next Step Basket thanks to our generous supporters.
