WORSHIP 10 AM Sundays
At no other time in the history of Christianity did love so characterize the entire church as it did in the first three centuries. The author, Tertullian (155-220), reported that the Romans would often exclaim regarding the Church, “See how they love one another!”
When most people hear the word “church” they probably think of a building. It may be a fancy building or a simp
le building like ours that comes to mind. But biblically speaking, a church is much more than a building. In fact, some would say that the church is not a building at all, but is all about the people. Remsen is, first, a family. A few of us are descended from the earliest settlers of our community…others are new to this area but we all share these things in common; we love God and each other and strive to live as God’s children and as witnesses to His love. Remsen is a traditional church; the kind that was once common in America but has begun to give way to a new and emergent theology and contemporary worship style. Some might call us old fashioned in comparison to other churches and we’re okay with that. We believe that God has made accommodation for many kinds of worship, including Remsen’s. Our Sunday service is much as it was when Remsen was founded 130 years ago. We sing traditional hymns accompanied by our wonderful young musician, Anabelle Guo, and our Worshippers ensemble with many featured musicians. We receive Holy Communion each week. We preach from the Bible and emphasize the Good News of Jesus Christ. We host traditional holiday celebrations, put our hands to mission and offer teaching for kids and adults. Our family governs its affairs relying on God’s guidance and providence. As such, some would label us non-denominational. We have an elected Leadership body and a Board of Elders who, with our pastor, guide us in our work and worship. There is a true Christian community at Remsen. We fellowship together regularly over food, service and fun and share each other’s joys and burdens daily. Our hope is that when others see us, they too will exclaim, “See how they love one another!”
We invite you to join us whenever our doors are open or to call us for prayer or a visit.
