Sermon Series: "The Word Blesses Us"
Message: “Blessings for the Persecuted.” Matt. 5:10

Persecution happens because of righteousness (living by God's standard)

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ costs us something and isn't always easy. As we act as peacemakers, the Kingdom of God through us is breaking into the world.

Persecutions:
•tests, refines, and grows faith in Jesus Christ
• strengthens the reliance on the Holy Spirit
• provides a powerful testimony and witness

Believers are called to respind to the persecution with love and prayer.

Pray for the persecuted church (Hebrews 13:3)

When you stand up for Jesus, expect to get pushed arou d and knocked down.

Sermon series: "The Word Blesses Us"
Message: "Blessings for the peacemakers"
Scripture: Matt 5:9; James 3:17-18; Romans 14:19; Hebrews 12:14

God is described aa God of peace in the Scripture (1 Thess 5:33). Making peace is part of God's gracious character.

Children of God walk in the footsteps of Jesus; walk the way of peace and create peace between people the way Jesus did.

What does it mean to be a peacemaker?
James 3: 17-18---peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Peace is rooted in our relationship with Jesus.
Peace begins with a smile. (Mother Theresa)
Peace is possible when we make the first move.
Peace is built in conversations.

Sermon Series: The Word Blesses Us
Message: "Blessings for the pure in heart"
Scripture: Matthew 5:8; Psalm 24:3; Romans 1:20

We cant have a pure heart on our own because we fall short of the glory of God but someday we will be made pure (by the blood of Jesus Christ) in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ. (1John 1:8-9; Romans 3:23; Romans 10.9, 13; Revelations 22:4)

We can see God (His activities in the world) both in and through us and others.

We can also reflect God through our activities.

"Pure in heart"---single focus, no hypocrisy, no deceit, no hiddlen motives.

How do you know the condition of your hear?
1. PRAY "create in me a pure heart....Psalm 51:10
2. Recognizing our need to be "poor in Spirit" Psalm 24:4
3. Prioritize God first
4. Pursue righteousness (Psalm 24:5)
5. Please God first (Hebrew 11:6)

When your heart starts becoming pure, you'll have a different perspectives. You'll see things differently. You'll start to "see God."

Today, we welcome Pastor Roberto Mosquera from Peru, his wife Valeria, and their adult daughter Marisol. Pastor Roberto and Valeria have been heavily involved in discipleship efforts, especially with the many small churches in the countryside. They make regular visits to encourage, resource, and share with these churches. Pastor Roberto is also involved with the school.

Marisol has been the school psychologist at PROMESA for many years, and has also helped out with many other aspects of the ministry there. She also has a heart for sharing Jesus with those she ministers to as a psychologist.

Pastor Roberto shared about the parable of the sower (Mark 4:1-9)
The seeds that fall on a good soil, are the people who listen to God's Word and be fruitful. They practice their spiritual life, make disciples, pray every day, read God's Word and continue to grow.

Examine ourselves, which seed are you? Are you the ones who fall on the rock, path, among the thorns, or good soil?

Thanks to Paul for sharing this morning.

Sermon series: "The Words Blesses Us"
Message: "Blessings for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness"
Matthew 5:6

What is it to hunger and thirst? (For righteousness)
Hebrew: Tsedeq-rightness
Greek: dikaiosyne - personal, relational, social righteousness

What is righteousness? Having the right relationship with God so that we could have the right relationship with one another (Matt 6:33)

A reminder(righteous living)
Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Go and make disciples of all nations.

Righteous living:
Micah 6:8...to act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with God

The good life is for those who deeply long for a right relationship with God, and for each other and for his will to be done.
Live it out rightly, with compassion and justice, blessing others as we go.

Sermon series on the Beatitudes entitled “The Word Blesses Us.”

"Blessed are those who mourn"

Scriptures: Matthew 5:4; Ecclesiastes 7:2-4; Psalm 34:15-20; 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4

Mourn: greek: pentheō (to grieve, mourn for)--express deep sadness and sorrow

It is right to mourn/grieve and spend some time to lament but we grieve differently. We have hope. (Ecclesiastes 7:2-4)

Knowing and following God's Word is essential to receive His blessing.

Comfort: Greek: parakaleō (to call near, invite to console)

The Word blesses us with an invitation to be comforted, encouraged and strenghtened. Jesus acknowledges the mourning is a part of human life.

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me..... to bind up the brokenhearted,..... to comfort those who mourn.

Jesus wraps up, mends, comforts the brokenhearted.
Jesus offers freedom and release from chains and darkness.

Through Jesus, we can comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
