Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Building up God's people through HIS word, for HIS world.

At Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, we share Jesus’ love by
serving our neighbors; grow in our faith through Bible study, worship, and prayer; and build up one another through connections we make at gatherings, small group meetings, and other events.

Join us as Pastor Johann preaches another pet sermon—Minnie’s story is a reminder that even in our deepest grief, God is already working ahead, preparing unexpected blessings that meet us right where we are. On the very day Clara passed, Minnie was being brought into the shelter that would become her doorway to a new life, proof that divine care often unfolds long before we can see it. Despite surviving five homes in nine months, Minnie now thrives in the safety of a permanent, loving home, chasing sparrows and living out the meaning of her name: Ministry. Her journey mirrors Jesus’ call to fearless discipleship: honest, courageous, and grounded in the truth that our Father values us more than many sparrows. And just like Minnie’s transformation, embracing that call reshapes our lives with truth, joy, and peace.

Today we honor Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free. It’s a moment of remembrance, resilience, and joy.
May we celebrate the strength of those who came before us and keep pushing toward true freedom for all.

Pastor James invites us to reflect on today’s Gospel, where Jesus declares, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” In this passage, we see that Christ’s entire ministry is rooted in compassion—a compassion directed toward people who are “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Throughout His life, Jesus never met suffering with judgment or dismissal. Instead, He responded with a love that suffers alongside those in need.
Before the disciples were sent out, they first received that same compassionate love from Jesus. It was this gift, not their qualifications or perfection, that empowered them to share God’s mercy with others. God’s love frees people from the pressure to earn worthiness or achieve flawlessness, offering instead a new identity as His beloved children.
Ultimately, Christians are called to step into Christ’s ongoing harvest by becoming living expressions of His compassion in a world still aching for hope, healing, guidance, and grace.

1 Peter 4:10-11 - Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear friends of Good Shepherd,

We need your help — urgently.

Rainforest Falls VBS is one of our biggest and most meaningful outreaches of the entire year. Hundreds of children from our community come to hear about God’s love in a fun, safe, joy‑filled environment. But right now, we are in danger of having to cancel VBS as we don’t have enough volunteers.

We still have many open roles — crew leaders, station leaders, assistants, and more. Whether you can help during VBS week or in the weeks leading up to it, your time will make a huge difference.

If you can lend a hand, please register now at www.gslcva.org/vbs.

VBS Dates: June 22–26, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Questions? Contact the VBS Leadership Team at [email protected].

“Go, therefore, and make disciples” has inspired countless church mission statements. Join Pastor James as he highlights not only Jesus’ command to go and make disciples, but also His promise to be with His people always – a promise that gives believers strength, comfort, and courage. On Trinity Sunday, Pastor James looks at the way God is actively at work in the life of the church – a church that worships and trusts God, while making room for doubt, because faith and doubt often exist side by side. As Christians, we are called to live out our faith in everyday life: at home, at work, and in our communities. The Trinity is not just a mystery to solve; rather, it is the living and loving work of God among His people. At the heart of today’s gospel are Jesus’ closing words, a lasting promise and assurance that no matter what happens in life, God is with us and will remain faithful to the very end.
