Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Building up God's people through HIS word, for HIS world.

At Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, we share Jesus’ love by
serving our neighbors; grow in our faith through Bible study, worship, and prayer; and build up one another through connections we make at gatherings, small group meetings, and other events.

“Go, therefore, and make disciples” has inspired countless church mission statements. Join Pastor James as he highlights not only Jesus’ command to go and make disciples, but also His promise to be with His people always – a promise that gives believers strength, comfort, and courage. On Trinity Sunday, Pastor James looks at the way God is actively at work in the life of the church – a church that worships and trusts God, while making room for doubt, because faith and doubt often exist side by side. As Christians, we are called to live out our faith in everyday life: at home, at work, and in our communities. The Trinity is not just a mystery to solve; rather, it is the living and loving work of God among His people. At the heart of today’s gospel are Jesus’ closing words, a lasting promise and assurance that no matter what happens in life, God is with us and will remain faithful to the very end.

The Hebrew word Ruach and Greek word Pneuma both mean wind, breath, or spirit, a divine duality that Jesus embodies when he breathes the Holy Spirit onto his disciples on Easter evening, echoing God's creation of Adam and signaling a new creation. Jesus offers his disciples a "wounded peace," not the absence of conflict, but a resilient, transformative peace rooted in his scars and suffering that empowers them to face a hostile world. As followers of Christ, we inherit this same Holy Spirit to unlock rooms of fear, hate, and despair by offering forgiveness, reconciliation, and Christ's peace to our neighbors, colleagues, and communities. The peace of Christ is not passive comfort but an active mission: just as Jesus was sent into the world, so too are we sent to transform pain through the Spirit's power and the work of forgiveness. Without the Spirit's transformative work, the world will be consumed by anger and vengeance; but with it, we become vessels of healing, justice, and wounded peace.

Jesus’ prayer before his arrest wasn’t for his followers to escape hardship but for strength, protection, and unity. Pastor James reminds us that Jesus’ prayer extends to Christians today, offering the comfort of being prayed for and showing how prayer can unexpectedly shape lives. Despite Jesus’ desire for unity, the church has long struggled with division. Because Jesus prayed for us, Pastor James urges believers to follow Jesus’ example by praying for friends, the church, and for unity and perseverance.

A mother's devastating loss of her daughter in Indonesia, revealed to be corruption by an adoption agency, mirrors Joseph's biblical story, showing how God transforms human suffering into divine purpose. Though we experience injustice and heartbreak, Scripture assures us that God has placed each of us with intentional purpose to seek and find Him, and despite feeling insignificant; we are individually precious to God with eternal meaning in His plan.
