One of the most beautiful architectural landmarks in the Washington DC area is the Washington DC temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located in Kensington, MD. For the last couple of years, the Washington DC temple has undergone major interior upgrades. Before the temple is re-dedicated, there is going to be a public open house so that anyone can take a tour through it. It was almost 50 years ago when the public last had a chance to see the inside of this magnificent temple. It is almost a once in a lifetime experience! For many, these temple open houses are a very spiritual experience.

A lot of people are expected to tour the temple during the open house. Because of the expected high turnout and the need for parking, the Church is providing free parking.

Free parking tickets will be available beginning January 5, 2022.

Below are the links for additional information about the temple open house, free parking tickets, and the purpose of temples in the Church of Jesus Christ.

January 5, 2022: Free parking tickets issuance begins

April 28 - June 4 (except Sundays). 9am to 9pm: Public open house.

Free parking tickets are available beginning January 5, 2022 starting at 10am. Go to www.dctemple.org for details on the parking and the open house.
Please note: Temples and chapels/meetinghouses are different in the Church of Jesus Christ. Our local chapels are open almost every Sunday for worship services and visitors are always welcome. Once dedicated, temples are only available to members in good standing.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, the Washington D.C. Temple will be open for public tours in Spring 2022. This is a rare opportunity to COME INSIDE this important landmark that has stood as a beloved place of worship for millions of people in the Washington, D.C. area and around the world.

200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF JANE MANNING JAMES
It is believed that Jane Manning James was born circa 1822. Regardless of the exact date, 2022 is as good as any date or year to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the birth and life of this remarkable and faithful Latter-day Saint woman. May her story inspire us to strengthen our testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A new year invite from the President and Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

THE LORD LEADS HIS CHURCH
We believe Jesus Christ’s church has been “restored” or re-established on earth and that He actively guides the direction of the church through His prophet. His current prophet, Russell M. Nelson, has stated that the restoration is ongoing and there are many things yet to be revealed.

In Sunday School a couple of weeks ago, the teacher made two great observations. First, for some the church appears to be moving too slowly in changing policies, practices, and outdated traditions. The Lord could change or reveal things more quickly, but He has to be patient with us and help all of us move forward together. It is us that are holding the Lord back. We need to learn to love and help one another, eliminate our prejudices and some cultural traditions, and become more righteous. We need to become a Zion-like people with one heart and one mine and no poor among us.

Second, those that are advocating for change need to realize and accept that when changes from the Lord do come, those changes may be different from what they expected. The Lord has said, “for my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Isaiah 55:8). We need to be careful that we do not tell the Lord what He should do and/or when He should do it. He loves us and will do what is best for us; we need to learn to trust Him, be humble, be patient, and accept His direction and timetable. When we do so, “all things [will] work together for [our] good” (Romans 8:28).

While we read the Christmas story in Matthew and Luke, we find the true meaning of Christmas in the gospel of John. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

The first and greatest gift of Christmas was neither gold, nor frankincense, nor myrrh. It was the willing gift from a loving Heavenly Father of His Beloved, Only Begotten Son.

On that first Silent Night, I can only imagine the holy mixture of emotions that our Heavenly Father must have experienced, watching from heaven as His Beloved Son entered a fallen world in the lowliest and most indigent of circumstances.

God is not devoid of emotions. He looks after us with all the tender feeling of a loving parent. I imagine the joy He felt in knowing that this precious infant would eventually win a glorious triumph over sin and death—throwing open the doors of heavenly possibilities so that you and I could someday live again with our loved ones.

But I also believe His joy was tempered by the perfect knowledge of what awaited His Beloved Son. In a few short years from that holy night, this same Son would suffer as none had ever, nor could ever, suffer.

But because our Heavenly Father loves us so much, He allowed these joyful and painful events to take their proper course. Because the world needed saving, and because you and I need saving, He sent us a Savior.

This Christmas, let us accept God’s perfect and precious gift. Let us cast our burdens and sins at the Savior’s feet and experience the joy that comes from repentance and change. Let us follow Jesus Christ and emulate His life as we celebrate His birth.

I wish you, my dear friends, a very merry Christmas.
