We are just three days away from my annual mid-winter trek to Virginia Beach and dip in the Atlantic Ocean for Special Olympics. The Virginia Knights of Columbus has been one of the largest supporters of this pro-Life event as we bring attention to God's goodness in all His creations, even those with Special Needs.

Today (October 31, 2025), we celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Michael J McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus. As a parish priest, Father McGivney was charged by his Bishop in 1882 to form a group of lay Catholic gentlemen to serve through charitable works at his parish.

Rooted in its origins was the influx of many Catholic immigrants who faced overt discrimination and as a result lacked access to preferrable jobs and instead took on high-risk and many times deadly employment to feed their families. The visionary that he was, Father McGivney made sure that all widows and orphans would be financially protected through life insurance (otherwise not available to many Catholics) and which has now grown into a world class and highly rate insurance and other financial solution component of our Order with over $28 billion being managed for its members.

Despite being called up to Heaven at only age 38 during the influenza pandemic of 1890, Blessed McGivney opened the way for over 2.1 million (and growing) Catholic gentlemen throughout the world (wanting to expand their collective faith) to serve through the Knight's core principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, and to become better husbands, fathers, citizens, neighbors, and in some cases priests, and other clergy.

Continue to pray for his intercession for all those daunting moments and that a second miracle is fully documented to allow this good catholic man to finally attain formal sainthood

The Knights at St. Catherine of Siena Church (1020 Springvale Rd. Great Falls, VA) will be holding its annual Parish Picnic this Sunday from 1:00pm to 3:30:pm. Come join us for great food and fun!

Come join us today at 1pm for a Chalice Ceremony taking place at St. Catherine of Siena church (Great Falls) hosted by Knights of Columbus Assembly 1781 (St. Elizabeth Bayley Seton Assembly).

This reverent ceremony will honor the lives of eight recently deceased Sir Knights of the Fourth Degree (with their names inscribed on the chalice) and be presented to Transitional Deacon, Joseph Heisey, who will be ordained as a Catholic priest in June and then assigned to the Archdiocese of the Military Services as both a military Chaplain and U.S. Army officer to "serve those who serve."

Pray for his duel duties to God and country as well for his safety and all those who wear the uniform to protect our country and its interests throughout the world. May his chalice provide spiritual nourish through the true presence of Jesus Christ.

Local Friends,

Starting tonight at 6pm and every Friday through March 22nd, Padre Pio Council 10754 (St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1020 Springvale Rd, VA 22066) will be hosting its weekly Lenten fish dinner of salmon, tortellini, fish & chips, salad, and beverages. As always, we buy our salmon from Lobster Maine-ia in Chantilly, family owned and a great supporters of the Knights and their initiatives.

Please join us for dinner followed by a reverent Stations of the Cross prayer session led by Father Pokorsky starting at 7pm.
