June 17, 2015. Eleven years ago today, nine lives were taken during Bible study at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC.

We remember them—not as victims, but as beloved individuals whose lives, faith, and light continue to guide us.

These were mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, educators, pastors, and community leaders. Their lives mattered. Their legacies endure.

Eleven years later, we still grieve.
We still remember.
And we remain committed to the work of justice, love, and healing.

There is a popular folklore that says when a red cardinal shows up that is message from loved ones that have passed on and they come to hello, or just to remind to stay encouraged especially during difficult time. The vibrant red color and the fact that still sing their songs in all seasons, should remind us of hope for the better. I saw one the other day outside my window and I smiled and I thought about all of my parents that have passed on, perhaps one or all of them just wanted to hello. It stirred up a memory of my dad as we are preparing for Father's Day.

I must have been 4 or 5 and whenever, I would go to church with my father I would ultimately fall asleep, ( funny memory for a pastor ). The best part was my dad would put his arm around me and make room for me let me rest my head on his chest. That would be the BEST NAP in the world! I suppose it was the feeling of security that would allow me to rest so well.

As we prepare to celebrate the Dad, Father like figures in our lives on Sunday if you can please share a fond memory you have of your father/ Father figure.

Ebenezer Women's MissionarySociety invites you to join them in prayer and mission on Saturday May 30th.
We are asking all that attend the Prayer Breakfast to bring any NEW or GENTLY USED shoes, boots or sandals that will be donated to help raise funds for mosquito nets for villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
You are also invited to join us in worship on Sunday June 14th.
