Good evening,

I want to make you all aware that ICE activity has increased in both Evanston and Skokie. As a faith community, we will not remain silent—we will continue to stand prophetically and powerfully for justice, dignity, and the protection of all God’s children.

We must also remain mindful of the risks involved when a federal agency continues to operate outside of constitutional bounds. Because of that, I will take a few moments during Sunday’s announcements to share some critical updates and safety information with you all.

If you or a loved one are ever detained or arrested by ICE, please contact me immediately.

Let me also be clear: unless presented with a federally signed criminal warrant, ICE will not be permitted access to the interior or exterior property of our church—including the Emerson lot.

I have been in contact with the Evanston Police Department and will continue serving as a liaison between them and our congregation. And yes—if it comes to it, I am fully prepared to stand, even at personal risk, to protect our community through arrest or detention.

As we move forward, let us hold tight to the words of the Prophet Isaiah:
“A bruised reed He will not break,
and a dimly burning wick He will not quench;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be crushed
until He has established justice in the earth…”
— Isaiah 42:3–4

Signed,
Rev. Kalif G. Crutcher, M.Div, MA, BCC
