Please join us in praying for the people of the Philippines following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao and the tsunami warnings that followed.

Our partners are already assessing impacts, coordinating with affected communities, and preparing their humanitarian response. As churches and ecumenical partners, they are accompanying those who are grieving, displaced, and facing uncertainty in the aftermath of this disaster.

Later this week, Week of Compassion Executive Director Rev. Vy Nguyen will travel to the Philippines as part of the Global Theological Fellows immersion program— a collaboration between Higher Education Leadership Ministries, Global Ministries, and Week of Compassion.

While Manila and the areas of our visit remain safe, this unfolding crisis is a reminder of why these relationships matter. Through partnerships built over many decades, we are able to learn from, pray with, and accompany churches that faithfully serve their communities in times of both celebration and crisis.

We invite you to pray:
• For those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
• For communities affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
• For our partners, local churches, and first responders as they assess needs and coordinate relief efforts.
• For wisdom, strength, and hope in the days ahead.

Week of Compassion remains in close communication with our partners and stands ready to accompany their response as needs emerge.

Join us as we mark the 225th anniversary of the Cane Ridge Revival, which took place August 6–12, 1801, and helped spark the emergence of the Stone-Campbell Movement. On Saturday, August 8, we will gather from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Cane Ridge Meeting House for a day of education, worship, and celebration. The program will include a panel of scholars reflecting on Barton W. Stone, the Cane Ridge Revival, and The Last Will and Testament of the Springfield Presbytery, along with keynote lectures, worship, and preaching in the historic meeting house. The event is free, lunch will be provided, and we ask all who plan to attend to RSVP: https://bit.ly/Cane-Ridge-225-RSVP

The Cane Ridge Revival and the Last Will and Testament of the Springfield Presbytery emerged during a time when old structures of church and society were giving way to something new. In this installment of the Historian’s Corner, Joel Brown explores what those formative moments in Stone-Campbell history might offer Disciples today as the world of congregations, denominations, seminaries, and voluntary associations changes around us. Dear Church,
Grace and peace to you in this season of uncertainty.

In recent days, we have watched with deep concern as the conflict involving Iran has escalated. While headlines often focus on political and military developments, I write to you today from the perspective of Week of Compassion – and from the voices of our partners across the region – about what this means for the people we accompany.
