I have been privileged to wear many different hats at EBIC-- both figuratively and literally! From playing drums on Sunday mornings to cleaning throughout the church during the week, my main social outlet for the past several years has been EBIC. While I am very grateful to the church for such opportunities, I am often concerned that I am caught in a bubble, not doing enough activities, going to enough places, or meeting enough new people. Am I, as an introvert, able to serve and please God by staying mostly confined to one place?
Several months ago, I feel as though God answered this question. As I was cleaning one week, I noticed the tri-fold board that was displayed in the church lobby, showcasing the vacancies in children’s ministry. While I had never considered serving in that area before, the position of primary choir assistant caught my eye as something I could potentially see myself doing. Well, the joke was on me, because just a few weeks later, I learned of the need for a new primary choir director to finish out the current season. Among those who were asked, I was one of the only ones who had the time to serve. God clearly opened the door, piquing my interest with the tri-fold board and then equipping me to try a new thing.
Had I been committed to other things or places, I likely wouldn’t have been able to help lead the primary choir. Yet by staying local to EBIC, God provided me with a new opportunity for growth, showing that I don’t need to be like everybody else with a crazy schedule and numerous social engagements. He can use me right where I’m at, whether it's through playing drums, cleaning floors, or frantically conducting a group of kids.
