Sunday's Gospel gave us one of the most direct things Jesus ever said about why he came:
"Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners." — Matthew 9:12–13

He said it at a dinner table full of tax collectors and people the religious establishment had written off. He sat down with them. Ate with them. And when questioned about it, he quoted Hosea — a prophet who had been saying the same thing for centuries.
God has always wanted our trust and love more than our performance. That's not a new idea in the Gospel. It's the whole arc of Scripture.

We call it grace: the movement of God toward us before we've done anything to deserve it. It's why we baptize infants. It's why we come to the table not because we've earned a seat, but because we've been invited.

The Church is made up of sinners. It is the sick whom Jesus came to heal. He has more love and mercy than you and I have sin. Jesus wants to hang out with you and share his life with you.
Come. Don't be afraid.

After this Sunday, the vestments change.
Holy Trinity Sunday is a festival — white, like Christmas and Easter. But on June 7, the color shifts to green, and stays green all the way through late November. This season is called Ordinary Time — not because it is dull, but because the weeks are numbered in order. From the Latin ordinalis: counted, named, held in sequence.

It is the longest season of the church year. In it, we do not move from feast to feast or crisis to crisis. We simply live — in the presence of the God who promised to stay.

"I am with you always, to the end of the age." — Matthew 28:20
That is what Ordinary Time is: the long, green, daily practice of trusting that promise.

We hope to see you there. Saturday 6 p.m. • Sunday at 9:30

On Memorial Day, we remember.

We remember those who gave their lives serving others, and we entrust them to the mercy of God, who created us, knows us, and cares for every life.

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers… what are human beings that you are mindful of them?” — Psalm 8

Memorial Day invites us to share in that same sense of wonder, knowing that no life is forgotten by God.

Today we give thanks, we remember, and we pray for all who carry memories close to their hearts.

We commend them to the mercy of the God whose name is majestic in all the earth.

Pentecost Sunday morning
Today is Pentecost. ✦

The waiting is over. The Spirit has come.

"Suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting… All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit." — Acts 2:2, 4

The same Spirit poured out in Jerusalem is the Spirit present in Elizabethtown this morning. At the font. At the table. In the Word proclaimed.

Come and receive it. 9:30 AM
