DIXON KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 690
NEWSLETTER FOR SEPTEMBER 2026

Grand Knight’s Message:

Good September all. I hope those who are sending the kids back to school have had a seamless transition from the lazy days of summer to the hectic schedules of the school year.
Just a few things to report from Council 690:

Fliers have been placed in the bulletins at the churches announcing upcoming events at 690. We hope you’ll pin these to your cork board or stick them on the fridge and participate when you can in helping the council. Some of the highlights you’ll see is our Drive-Thru Dinner, Tootsie Roll sales and the ever-popular end of the month breakfast.
Knight of the Month for August was awarded to Brother Larry Lally. Larry holds a guard position in the council and attends meetings and other events and is just an all-around good guy that brings character to the council. Congrats Larry!
Family of the Month was awarded to Bob and Paula Venier. Bob is a 44-year member of Council 690 and an active participant in St. Patrick’s. The family business is a major supporter of the council’s Bourbon, Beer and Wine fundraiser. Congrats to Bob and Paula Venier!
Cor, a multi-council initiative aimed at strengthening men’s relationship with Jesus, is being workshopped by several councils in the area including Sterling and Morrison. Still in the planning stages, the group is looking for ideas and participation from Dixon 690. They meet at St Marys Sterling Bales Center, every other Saturday at 9:15 am starting on August 22. For more information contact Terry McGinn at 319-929-2827 or check out kofc.org.

Vivant Jesus!
Alex T. Paschal
Grand Knight.

Prayer Intentions:

Pope Leo XIV: Let us pray for a just and sustainable management of water, a vital resource, so that everyone may have equal access to it.

Father John Evans: Since the Pope's intention for September is for clean water, I thought we could pray for increased gratitude for, and stewardship of, our stretch of the Rock River.
Please also pray for: All deceased Brother Knights and their family members.

Membership Promotion and Benefits
Over the last few years we have added a few new members to our council and we are surely stronger as a result. We would like that growth to continue. Please talk to your friends about joining the council. We can schedule a first-degree ceremony at any time to welcome a new member. If you have any questions about bringing someone into the council talk to Luke Dixon.
Also, Joe Yockey assists us with membership promotion. See his add below that you can use to give to prospective members. Copy it and send it to your friends or acquaintances who could be encouraged to join. Also he is the man to contact for all Knights of Columbus benefits information. Call Joe at 815-234-5250.

DIXON KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 690
NEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST 2026

Grand Knight’s Message:

From Grand Knight Alex T. Paschal:
Thank you again for my Brother Knights for entrusting me with the honorable position of Grand Knight. I will certainly work hard to continue to help the best council in Illinois continue to thrive and move forward. We had a wonderful installation on July 6, lots of Brother Knights and their loved ones attended.

Knight of Month is being awarded to Dick Stangeland. We razzed him a bit at the Saturday drawing for coming in late for the door prize, but he took it in stride and has always supported the 500 drawing, so congrats to Dick. I’m sure this more than makes up for not winning the $25 (or the $500) bucks.

Family of Month is going to a couple that needs no introduction, and yet they will get one anyway. They have stepped up to help set up the rooms for various events, have brought snacks and attended many Happy Hours, worked away in the kitchen during breakfast and led this council the last year. Family of the Month is awarded to Larry and Ann Prindaville.

On July 4th, Luke and Lisa Dixon, Gary and Denise Mosher, Frank and Jackie Hiatt with Payton Felix and myself served beer for the council at Petunia Fest. I guess the way it goes is all tips collected are consolidated and distributed out to the groups that worked. I don’t know when or what to expect, so we’ll just hang loose on our end. It was a good time, I certainly think we should continue this next year and into the future, perhaps with a few tweaks.

Looking ahead, we have a breakfast on July 26, officers’ meeting on Aug. 3, Home Association meeting on Aug 11 and the Third Sat. Shamrock Club Draw Down on Aug. 15.

Alex T. Paschal, Grand Knight

Prayer Intentions:

Pope Leo XIV: Let us pray that in large cities often marked by anonymity and loneliness
we find new ways to proclaim the Gospel, discovering creative paths to build community.

Father Draper: For all our new and returning teachers and students,
that the new school year will be one of growth and learning.

Please also pray for: All deceased Brother Knights and their family members, especially Bill Stover
