When Mary used the expensive oil to anoint Jesus, Judas was more concerned about why it wasn’t sold and the money given to the poor. Not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief and wanted to help himself to some of the money. This gives us some insight as to who Judas was even then before he would betrayJesus. Why would he have a problem betraying Jesus for 30 pieces of silver? Those 30 pieces of silver would have been equivalent to about 120 days of labor. Judas saw the oil as merely money. He didn’t see it as Mary showing her love and devotion to Jesus. We need to be careful we don’t end up like Judas, betraying Jesus for money and instead be like Mary, showing our love and devotion to Jesus!

This was Jesus’ response to Martha when He had asked to be taken to the tomb of Lazarus. Martha was struck with grief over the loss of her brother and didn’t understand what the Lord was about to do. We are like that sometimes too, aren’t we. We can’t see what lies ahead and so we may be worried or afraid of what will happen. We don’t focus on God and His ability to take care of us in that situation. This verse definitely applies to us in the world today as much as it did to Martha in that moment. We just need to believe that God has our back!

Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. How hard must it have been for Him to stay behind after hearing that Lazarus was sick? Yet, He did what He was supposed to do. He waited two days and then told the disciples that they needed to go. Jesus did this knowing that Lazarus would be raised up. Our human selves cannot fathom that, yet Jesus knew He was going to be the one to wake him up. Talk about love and compassion. What a wonderful example of how faithful we should be when doing what God calls us to do!

Satan comes trying to steal, kill, and destroy us. He doesn’t care about us except that he wants to win us over to his evil side. Thankfully Jesus was sent to this world to give us life, eternal life, if we just accept Him as our personal savior! He will protect us from Satan and his evil schemes. I am sure glad that with Christ we can have life more abundantly!
