Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina. Come w

Founded in 1812 as a mission church in the South Carolina backcountry, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has grown to be one of the 20 largest congregations in the Episcopal Church. Located across the street from the South Carolina Statehouse, its beautiful campus is anchored by its newly restored sanctuary. Trinity’s historic tradition of community outreach and serving the state/public church are a testimony both to our love of God and commitment to service in the name of the Lord. In institutional terms, we are a resource parish with a diverse, multigenerational membership. We offer many different worship opportunities and welcome all to worship with us. Our ministries for children and youth are especially strong, as is our music program which is grounded in Anglican Cathedral tradition. Through strong lay leadership and active laity, we support a large number of church programs and operate and contribute to community programs. We have a clear vision of the future, which involves a wide variety of ministries and missions to serve all our spiritual and pastoral needs as well as to continue to reach out in love to the greater Columbia community and to the world.

We had a spooky, spectacular time at Saints & Souls last night! Thanks to all our volunteers who shared the stories of Trinity’s cathedral and churchyard, and to all our Columbia neighbors who came to visit. We’re already excited for next year!

This Sunday, 32 candidates will receive the sacrament of confirmation at the 11:15 a.m. service. Confirmation is a rite in which the candidates "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop." (Book of Common Prayer). We celebrate with these members as they take the next step in their life of faith.
During the Sunday school hour, Bishop Daniel Richards will offer a lesson for the confirmands in Satterlee Hall, and all are welcome to participate. Come celebrate with us this Sunday!

Join us – if you dare – for Saints & Souls at Trinity on Wednesday, October 28.
Take a candlelight tour of our cathedral with its gothic revival architecture and vast collection of stained glass windows.
Hear historic tales from our graveyard, whose residents include some notable figures from South Carolina history.
The evening will conclude with spooky music for All Hallows Eve featuring our cathedral organ.

On October 18, we heard the Gospel account of the Pharisees and Herodians posing something of a trick question to Jesus - "Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” Jesus holds up a denarius bearing the image and title of Ceasar and says “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:15-22)
The Rev. Jimmy Hartley poses this quetion: If the denarius bears the image of Caesar, who bears the image of God?
