Looking back on last weekend’s parish festival — what a joy. Great food, games, music, and the best company you could ask for. We’re so thankful to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to make it happen, and to everyone who came out to be part of it. This is what community looks like!

World Mission Day was first established by Pope Pius XI, beginning in October 1927. This year the Church celebrates the 100th World Mission Day on Sunday, October 18, 2026. As the Church prepares to celebrate this day, Pope Leo XIV calls us to unity in Christ, love, and renewed missionary commitment "with joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit" in his first World Mission Sunday Message: “One in Christ, united in mission."

Today is the feast day of St. Ignatius of Antioch.
⁣
Ignatius was born a pagan around 30 AD and converted to Christianity as an adult thanks to the Apostle John. He became the third bishop of Antioch during the time of Roman Emperor Trajen, who persecuted Christians.
⁣
Ignatius is most known for his seven epistles to the early Church communities which he wrote on his way to be martyred in Rome. In his letters, he pleaded that the Church let him die and that the communities should keep themselves from heresy.
⁣
Ignatius was attacked by lions in Circus Maximus in 107 AD. He is the patron of the Church in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Today is the feast day of St. Teresa of Avila, a Spanish nun, mystic, and Doctor of the Church.
⁣
She was a member of the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation in Avila, Spain. Teresa spent much of her life reforming herself and the Carmelites. While she wrestled with illness, she still fought to dedicate her life and work to God. She founded a handful of monasteries and was a powerful writer.
⁣
Two of her most famous writings include the Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle, which served as spiritual and practical guides for Christian living, first within the Carmelites and then to the broader Church.
⁣
In her life, Teresa was a bright shining light to those around her. She is the patron of the sick, religious orders, and Spanish Catholic writers.
⁣

Join us this weekend at the St. Leo the Great Parish Festival. We’ve got two jumbo TV screens set up so you can watch the Cleveland Guardians playoff games while enjoying the food, games, and community. No need to choose between the game and the festival — come for both.

Saturday, October 17th
5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Cabbage & noodles, pierogis, pizza, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, grilled 1/4 lb. hot dogs, grilled 1/3 lb. hamburgers, Italian sausage sandwiches, and kids meals

St. Carlo Acutis reminds us that holiness doesn’t mean becoming a different person. It means letting God transform the person you already are.
He loved soccer. He loved his friends. He loved technology. And he loved Jesus.
You don’t have to wait until you’re older, wiser, or “more holy” to start living for God.
The saints started saying yes right where they were. So can you. 🙏

This week, we pray for victims and survivors of human trafficking, for those working to end exploitation, and for hearts willing to say "yes" to protecting the vulnerable.
