Charlottesville Friends Meeting

Charlottesville Friends Meeting Welcome to Charlottesville Friends Meeting, an unprogrammed meeting affiliated with Baltimore Yearly Meeting. We are delighted to have visitors.

We are an unprogrammed meeting. When we worship, we gather in silence to listen for the Spirit of God to speak through us. Occasionally some may stand and share the fruits of their silent worship through brief vocal ministry or song. Then we have after-thoughts, introductions, and announcements before we rise. Please stay for introductions and announcements, so we can get to know each other. There

are two worship sessions on Sunday mornings. During the later worship we offer youth programs. High Schoolers are welcome to join us for the entire Meeting for Worship. The younger children (nursery - middle school) join us for the last fifteen minutes and after-worship sharing.

JOIN US TOMORROW at 5:30 at the corner of Preston and McIntire. This unauthorized war is killing people (innocent civilians and our own service members) and has already cost billions of dollars. Demand an end to the war.

At Charlottesville Quaker Meeting today we were working on discerning what we propose CFM’s priorities are for the legislative priorities for FCNL ( https://www.fcnl.org ) in the coming two years. Here is the list of the last priorities we looked at from the session just ending. I feel so grateful to be involved in this Quaker work. I am especially grateful to people from CFM community who devote so much time and wisdom to this.

The Love Thy Neighbor group will host two screenings of Sometime, Somewhere, a 2023 documentary about immigrants in central Virginia made by an Argentinian filmmaker who was himself an immigrant in Charlottesville some 30 years ago. In November 2025, there was a sold out screening of Sometime, Somewhere at Vinegar Hill Theatre to raise funds for the Central Virginia Community Support Fund (CVCSF).

On Monday, January 12th at 7pm, Sometime, Somewhere will be shown at the Church of the Incarnation. After the film there will be a discussion about the contemporary immigration situation. Donations for the CVCSF will be welcomed.

On Friday, January 16th at 7pm, Sometime, Somewhere will be shown at Charlottesville Friends Meeting. After the film, there will be a discussion about the contemporary immigration situation. Childcare will be provided. Donations for the CVCSF will be welcomed.

What a sweet tradition. We may need to do this too!

What a sweet tradition. We may need to do this too!

In 2025, Arch Street Quakers instituted a new custom: when we worship with another Quaker community on our travels, we snap a photo of the meetinghouse or those we’re visiting to put in our weekly newsletter. It’s a fun way we share with each other how Quakerism touches our lives even when we aren’t at our spiritual home. As this year ends, here are some of the lovely Quaker communities that have welcomed our members and attenders:

→ Central Philadelphia Friends Meeting
→ Charlottesville Friends Meeting
→ Flushing Monthly Meeting
→ Friends Meeting of Washington
→ Germantown Friends Meeting
→ Haddonfield Monthly Meeting - Religious Society of Friends
→ Ithaca Monthly Meeting
→ Merion Friends Meeting
→ Munich Quaker Devotional Group
→ Pittsburgh Friends Meeting - Quakers
→ Plymouth Friends Meeting
→ Saratoga Friends Meeting (Quaker)
→ Seaville Quaker Meeting

We can’t wait to see and visit many more Friends in 2026. Is there a Quaker meeting that’s on your bucket list to visit? If so, we want to know which one it is!

Important for Quakers to consider.

Important for Quakers to consider.

When the moment comes, we need you to be ready. We need you to be able to look violence in its dead eyes and sing to it.

How can I access an up-to-date list of needed supplies? We keep an updated list of needed supplies for both the day shelter and kitchen on our website. This also includes items we cannot accept, like most clothing and bedding.

Where we stand.

Minute on LBGTQIA+ Community

April 2025

Members of the LBGTQIA+ Community are being targeted in a government-led attempt to erase their very existence. At Charlottesville Friends Meeting we stand with and support members of the Q***r Community. We recognize the Light they bring us. We are dedicated to holding a welcoming place of worship where the Divine spark in every human can shine.
