Pastor Ryan preached a thought-provoking word, opening our 3 week series on church planting beginning with the “why” of it.

In short, we plant churches for God’s glory.

From Genesis to Revelation, Pastor Ryan traced the thread of God working in His people for His own glory, showing the Bible’s reason for salvation and for gathering His people up in churches — for His glory!

Pray for open and responsive hearts and minds as we think hard about the topic over the next few weeks.

This weekend GBC had the privilege of hosting the Singapore Baptist Convention’s Conference on “Spurgeon The Pastor”, followed by GBC’s own conference on “Spurgeon and the Church” with Professor Geoff Chang.

Prof Geoff Chang is Professor of Church History and Systematic Theology, and the Curator of the Spurgeon Library at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a world-class expert on the life and ministry of Charles Spurgeon.

Often we hear about the greatness of this Christian hero in the faith - from his skill as a preacher, the size of his flock at the Metropolitan Tabernacle, his Pastor’s College, orphanage and worldwide influence. But over 2 days, we learnt about the glory of Spurgeon’s ordinary ministry as a faithful pastor to a local church, and how God used that to bless many.

Let us pray that God would grant encouragement and zeal for the Baptist pastors who attended, and spiritual fruit from the GBC members who joined in.

Join us tomorrow as Geoff brings God’s Word tomorrow in our worship service together!

From Eph 6:5-9, Pastor Ryan took us into some wonderfully edifying reflections on “Monday’s Master” for workers and those in authority as bosses.

What a blessed thought that as the Lord of the Sabbath, whom we serve, is also the Lord of our Mondays too.

May we serve the Lord and please Him with our work.

Pastor Eugene took us through Ephesians 6:1-4 and reflected on "Family Matters". It was an encouraging and challenging word for parents and children about what it looks like to follow Christ as we relate to each other. In this section of Ephesians, we consider how walking as children of light and reflecting His grace means the transformation of all our relationships.

May our familial relationships resonate with the aroma of Christ as we learn to be gracious to one another at home, and look strange against the distrust, harshness, and conflict of the world.

On Sunday Pastor Eugene helped us understand the mystery of marriage and how husbands and wives each had specific exhortations from the apostle Paul.

To understand God’s good design for marriage is to move beyond mere good works and godly requirements for each spouse, to consider the spiritual truth at the heart of the sign of marriage — our marriages are the shadow, and the Gospel reality, the substance.

May God help us grow in our appreciation of this truth and what it means for us all, husbands, wives and singles looking to the final wedding supper of the Lamb.

Pastor Eugene preached from Ephesians 5:15-21 encouraging us to “Live Carefully”. While the second half of the epistle lays out imperatives of the Christian life, we are empowered by the Gospel to live out transformed lives. Filled by His Spirit and controlled by Him, we now have every resolve to live for His glory.

Pastor Ryan opened up Eph 5:3-14 today helping us think about our new identity as children of the light — not only do we have the instruction to live as light, we have the motivation to do so according to the Gospel.

We also expressed our thanks to outgoing elders Nehemiah Chong and Jonathan Tan, as well as deacon Kagen Lim. Praise God for these brothers having completed their terms of service, and we seek blessing for them and their families in this season of rest.

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!

Pastor Andrew took us through Luke 24:1-12 as we reflected on the events of that resurrection morning. In fulfillment of His own word and promise, Jesus was raised to new life, much to the amazement and wonder of His followers.

This is the message entrusted to us — that because Jesus was crucified and raised, peace with God and forgiveness of sins are available to all who call upon His name in repentance and faith.

Blessed Resurrection Sunday!

This evening we gathered with many visitors to reflect on “The Power of the Cross”. We read our way through Luke 23 in worship, and Pastor Jeremy expounded verses 32-56 for our edification.

While we grieve and mourn our sins, we rejoice quietly in the hope that Good Friday did not end with sin and death having the last word. Jesus Christ was crucified - He died and was buried.

But Resurrection Sunday is coming.
