John 14:12
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.

Matthew 10:8a
Cure the sick; raise the dead; cleanse those with a skin disease; cast out demons.

PROMISE. PRACTICE. POSTURE.
Three movements for today.
Are we willing to make ourselves available when He wants to work?

1) PROMISE
Believe Christ for what He can do

John 14:12
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes (pisteuō) in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.
πιστεύω (pisteuō) carries the sense of trusting, relying upon, placing our confidence in someone.

PROMISE — JOHN 14:12
The starting point of supernatural ministry is TRUST IN JESUS.

John 14:12
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater (meizona) works than these, because I am going to the Father.
μείζονα (meizona) with the sense of greater in extent or reach

2) PRACTICE
Bring Christ To Where People Hurt

Matthew 10:1
Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority (exousia) over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.
ἐξουσία (exousia) means delegated authority.

Christian ministry is look at the authority and goodness of Jesus.

Matthew 10:8a
Cure the sick; raise the dead; cleanse those with a skin disease; cast out demons.

He sends them into places of human brokenness—sickness, death, exclusion, spiritual bo***ge.

2) PRACTICE
Bring Christ To Where People Hurt
Am I willing to go where Jesus sends me and trust Him when I get there?

3) PORTURE
Depend on Christ, not on our own power

JOHN 14:12
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.

POSTURE — DEPENDENCE, NOT CONTROL
Supernatural ministry does not mean we always understand what God does.
It means WE CONTINUE DEPENDING UPON HIM.

Our posture is simple: available, obedient, dependent.

APPLICATION
PROMISE — Believe Christ for what He can do.
PRACTICE — Bring Christ to where people hurt.
POSTURE — Depend on Christ, not on our own power.

This week, begin with one simple sentence:
“CAN I PRAY FOR YOU?”

Ordinary people. Extraordinary God.

PROMISE. PRACTICE. POSTURE.
Three movements for today.
Are we willing to make ourselves available when He wants to work?

1) A BELIEVER'S RESPONSIBILITY IS TO UNDERSTAND & APPLY GOD'S PRINCIPLES OF GIFTS FOR SPIRITUAL IMPACT (v1-4)

2) Definition of spiritual gifts (v5-7)

2b) A spiritual gift is given on behalf of someone else and lends to community growth and vision (12:5, 7)
2c) A spiritual gift reveals a certain aspect of God's presence and character (12:7a)

3) DISCOVER YOUR GIFTEDNESS (v8-10)

- - - -
Walk by the Spirit. Keep in step with the Spirit.

- - - -
Dependence
Where partnering the Spirit begins
“Apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Not: “Holy Spirit, help me accomplish what I have decided to do.”
But: “Holy Spirit, I need You. Lead my life.”

- - - -
The call: walk by the Spirit

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:16

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25

- - - -
Three movements

DEPEND Depend on the Spirit
I cannot transform myself.

DISCERN Discern His leading
You lead; I will follow.

DISPLAY Display Christ
Let Jesus be seen in me.

- - - -
TRANSFORMED BY THE SPIRIT
DEPEND
We cannot transform ourselves

- - - -
WE CANNOT TRANSFORM OURSELVES
1. DEPEND
“After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Galatians 3:3

Discipline WITHOUT dependence can become self-effort.

- - - -
WE CANNOT TRANSFORM OURSELVES
1. DEPEND

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

The starting point is not our strength.
The starting point is DEPENDENCE.

- - - -
SINGAPORE LIFE
When competence becomes self-reliance
We plan. We compare. We calculate. We optimise. We prepare.

“Lord, please bless my plan.”
What if we reverse the order?
Before I decide — Lord, what do You want?
Before I react — Lord, how should I respond?
Before I solve — Lord, what are You doing here?

We need the Holy Spirit even when we are strong and think we can cope.

- - - -
DEPEND
A simple prayer of dependence
PARENT “Holy Spirit, Give me wisdom.”
ANGER “Holy Spirit, Guard my words.”
ADDICTION"Holy Spirit, Give me strength for the next step towards freedom.”
OLD WOUND “Holy Spirit, Begin Your work in me.”
CONTROL Holy Spirit, Teach me to surrender.”

- - - -
TRANSFORMED BY THE SPIRIT
DISCERN
Recognise and follow the spirit’s leading

- - - -
RECOGNISE AND FOLLOW THE SPIRIT’S LEADING
2. DISCERN
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

- - - -
RECOGNISE AND FOLLOW THE SPIRIT’S LEADING
2. DISCERN
The Holy Spirit leads. We follow.

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Romans 8:14

- - - -
KEEP IN STEP
PARTNERING THE HOLY SPIRIT is simply
STOPPING before speaking,
LISTENING before reacting,
PRAYING before deciding
and OBEYING when He prompts.

- - - -
DISCERN
How do we discern the Spirit?
The Holy Spirit will NEVER lead us contrary to God’s Word.
“The Spirit guides us into truth.” John 16:13

“The Spirit reminds His disciples of what Jesus has taught.” John 14:26

Holy Spirit, what would honour Christ in this moment?

Listen. Test it against Scripture. Then obey.

- - - -
TRANSFORMED BY THE SPIRIT
DISPLAY
Let Christ be seen through our lives

- - - -
LET CHRIST BE SEEN THROUGH OUR LIVES
3. DISPLAY

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22–23

The fruit belongs to the Spirit.
The transforming power comes from Him.

- - - -
TRANSFORMATION FROM WITHIN

Fruit is grown — not attached

“I must be patient.” “I must control my anger.” “I must forgive.” “I must be a good Christian.”
->
The Holy Spirit wants to grow the character of Christ from within us.

“We are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

- - - -
FRUIT GROWS
Don’t despise the small work of the Spirit
20 years of anger
Today. stops after five minutes
Next time. catches the words earlier
Eventually. “Holy Spirit, help me.”
->
That is GROWTH

Small changes may be evidence that the Spirit of God is changing you.

- - - -
DISPLAY
Why does He transform us?
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

People may never read the Bible. But they read our lives.
->
“What is different about this person?”
“Jesus is changing me by His Spirit.”

- - - -
CONCLUSION
Who is setting the pace?
My ambition? My fear? My anger? My past? Other people’s expectations? My own desires?
Or the Holy Spirit?

The Christian life is not a life we live for God by our own strength.
It is a life God lives in us by His Spirit.

DEPEND Depend on the Spirit
I cannot transform myself.

DISCERN Discern His leading
You lead; I will follow.

DISPLAY Display Christ
Let Jesus be seen in me.

- - - -
A PRAYER TO CARRY INTO THE WEEK
“Holy Spirit, what would honour Christ in this moment?”

Listen. Test it against Scripture. Then obey.

1 Timothy 2:1-6.
1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—
2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to, at the proper time.

- - - -
Intercession
Definition:
“the act of petitioning God on behalf of another person or group… The defining characteristic of genuine intercession is selfless concern—advocacy focused on the well-being of others rather than personal benefit.”
-Nelson’s New Illustrated Bible Dictionary
-Prayer on behalf of others

- - - -
Intercession.
God’s Instructions
God’s Desire
God’s Work

- - - -
1. God’s instructions, v1&v2
Important: Not just to pray, but to pray for all people
“all people” – emphasis repeated in v4, v6.
Central thrust: Universality of the Gospel

V1: I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people…

V2 shows extent of the people we must pray for
Who was in authority in Paul’s time?
Emperor Nero, who persecuted Christians
Pray for all people

V2: for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness…

- - - -
2. God’s Desire, v3&v4
Pharisees prayed in order to:
Be praised (Matt 6:5)
Impress others( Luke 19-9-14)
Do we pray to impress others?
True Christians pray to please God
Pray in the Will of God

Praying God’s will or self?
when you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures, James 4:3
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us, 1 John 5:14

V3: this is good and pleases God our Saviour…

What is God’s will?
Salvation of lost souls
John 3:16
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself John 12:32.
God’s Desire is for all people

NO: all people will be saved, without exception
YES: All people should hear the Gospel, without distinction
EMPHASIS: ACCESS to the Gospel
Not responsible for their salvation, but we must pray and share

V4: who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth…

- - - -
3. God’s Work, v5&v6
Intercession is possible because of Jesus’ work as Saviour and Mediator
Not because of our impressive words
Intercession is NOT a performance

Jesus, help! Jesus, have mercy!
Gave Himself as a “ransom”: price paid to free a slave

v5, v6 : for there is one God and mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people…

- - - -
Intercession
God’s instruction: Pray for all people
God’s desire: All to have access to Gospel
God’s work: Mediate between us and God

- - - -
Alignment
God’s Will

- - - -
Alignment
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

1. Present Ourselves
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that *you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.*
Romans 12:1

Our physical bodies as much as our spirit and soul are valuable to God
- - - -
2. Renewal of Our Minds
2 And *do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,* that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

Examples:
Genesis 2:24
Genesis 24:10-28, 48-59

Example 1
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:24

Example 2 Verse 10-13
Genesis 24:10-28, 48-59
10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, for all his master's goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.
11 And he made his camels kneel down outside the city by a well of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water.
12 Then he said, “O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.
13 Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.
14 Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, 'Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink' - let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
15 And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder.
16 Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 And the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.”
18 So she said, “Drink, my lord.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.
19 And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold,
23 and said, “Whose daughter are you? Tell me, please, is there room in your father's house for us to lodge?”
24 So she said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, Milcah's son, whom she bore to Nahor.”
25 Moreover she said to him, “We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge.”
26 Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord.
27 And he said, “Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren.”
28 So the young woman ran and told her mother's household these things.
48 And I bowed my head and worshiped the Lord, and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the way of truth to take the daughter of my master's brother for his son.
49 Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.”
55 But her brother and her mother said, “Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go.”
56 And he said to them, “Do not hinder me, since the Lord has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master.”
57 So they said, “We will call the young woman and ask her personally.”
58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" And she said, “I will go.”
59 So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

4. Seek His Face & Commune with Him
Jeremiah 29:12-14a
12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
14a I will be found by you, says the Lord,…
- - - -
5. God Wants to Visit Us & Stay With Us
Key Pointers:
John 14:6-21
v12 – …greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
v14 – If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
v17 – …will be in you.
v21 – …My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
v23 – …We will come to him and make Our home with him.
- - - -
John 14:6-21
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.
- - - -
6. United with God
1 Corinthians 6:15-17
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is *one spirit with Him.*
- - - -
7. Purity for His Glory
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Key Pointers:
v18 – …Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
v20 – …glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
- - - -
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
