A new encyclical by Pope Leo XIV, Magnifica Humanitas, invites us to rethink what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

It deeply resonates with the vocation of Domuni Universitas: to bring theology, philosophy, the human sciences, and technology into dialogue within a global, intercultural, and fully digital academic space.

Pope Leo XIV emphasizes that the Church does not fear engagement with human knowledge and is called to discern the “signs of the times” in conversation with the sciences. This approach echoes the very identity of an online university such as Domuni, founded on the conviction that the digital space can become a place of intellectual and spiritual encounter between peoples and cultures.

On May 24, 1233, during the General Chapter in Bologna, the body of St. Dominic was transferred to a marble tomb in the presence of Pope’s legate, Bl. Jordan of Saxony, and many brothers of the Order.

As the tomb was opened, a marvelous fragrance began to emanate from the holy body, “showing clearly to all how sweet an odor of Christ this man was.”

St. Dominic had wished to be buried humbly “beneath the feet of the brothers,” yet through this sign God revealed the holiness of the founder of the Order of Preachers. The event marked the beginning of the canonical process that would lead to his canonization on July 3, 1234.

May St. Dominic continue to inspire us to preach the Gospel with humility, truth and charity.

During the night, Kyiv suffered a powerful attack by Russian drones and missiles. A missile struck a residential building located opposite the Dominican friars’ priory, causing serious damage to the convent.

According to fr. Jarosław Krawiec, OP, the force of the explosion destroyed most of the windows and doors of the priory. The St. Thomas Aquinas Institute of Higher Religious Studies, directed by the friars, also suffered damage to its classrooms and auditorium. The conventual chapel was also affected, with windows and stained glass shattered.

From the morning, the faithful and friends of the Dominican community gathered for Mass and remained to help clean the damaged areas. If you are able to make a donation to help repair the windows, your support can be sent to the friars:

“Despite these difficult and painful experiences, we do not lose hope for peace,” fr. Jarosław said.

The Order of Preachers invites the whole Dominican Family to pray for the friars, the faithful in Kyiv, all those affected by the attack, and for the gift of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
