Dear Brothers and Sisters Oblates.
in annex you will find the letter, already sended to the benedectine Monastery of the world, to inform them of the newborn structure of the Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum, wanted by the Synod of Abbots-Presidents of Benedectine Order, and constituted by the Abbot-Primate, Father Jeremias Schroder at the beginning of 2026.
The SIOB want be an instrument to help the oblates of the world to be more conscious as part of the benedectine family.
In the spirit of this awareness we ask your kind collaboration to help us to develop the SIOB and as first step, spreading this informations to all the people interested to live as oblates the Benedictine Jubilee 2029 and participate at the following International Oblates Congress.
Second, as you can read the SIOB is creating his structure to reach the above mentioned two goals, and looking for collaboration.

Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum International Secretariat of Benedictine Oblatures Saint Anselm Abbey Piazza di Cavalieri di Malta Rome To the person in charge of the Oblature, if you have an oblates attached to your monastery April 8, 2026 Dear Oblate brothers and sisters of the Benedictine family, On November 28, 2025, following the Synod of Abbots-Presidents of our Order, the Abbot-Primate appointed me as his delegate to foster connections among Oblates worldwide and to begin work on organizing the next International Congress of Oblates. Subsequently, an international secretariat for Benedictine Oblates was established, and Dr. Roberto Lomolino, an Oblate of Saint Anselm in Rome, was appointed its Secretary General. Roberto Lomolino and I are writing to you to clarify the scope of our mission. It is important to remember that the Abbot-Primate of the Benedictine Order maintains no formal or canonical relationship with the Oblates. And we know the importance, constantly emphasized, of each Oblate's special attachment to his own monastery. However, in recent years we have witnessed growth in the Oblate movement, with an increasingly strong desire for fraternal communion among themselves and at the global level. We have thus been asked to foster open coordination among all members and in connection with the entire Benedictine family. Thus, the delegate of the Abbot Primate fulfills an informal coordinating role for the Oblates, a role that the Abbot Primate cannot assume, being occupied by other functions at various levels. The Abbot Delegate therefore does what the Abbot Primate could do, regularly consulting him, but also having the freedom to develop initiatives. The most obvious task to date is the organization of an international congress of Oblates and their participation in the Benedictine Jubilee. All initiatives must be undertaken with these two objectives in mind. The Secretary General acts in coordination with the Abbot-Delegate. For the time being, the secretariat is called the "Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum" (SIOB). We will see if it is necessary to change this name. In the immediate future, we propose that the leaders, or a representative designated by them, of the various national or regional Oblate organisations or boards meet in Rome in 2027 to jointly decide on the framework for an international congress in Rome, following the Jubilee Year in 2030. To achieve the two aforementioned objectives, the Secretariat (SIOB) will adopt the following structure. SIOB Structure: The Secretariat pursues the objectives set by the Abbot Primate. The Abbot Delegate is the Abbot Primate's deputy. The Secretary General, in agreement with the Abbot Delegate, implements the actions necessary to achieve the objectives. The Secretary General, in agreement with the Abbot Delegate, will appoint three oblates, called "Assistants," from monasteries within the Benedictine Confederation. These volunteers will assist the Secretariat with the following activities: 1) Communication/Press/Website/Social Media; 2) Document Archiving; 3) Treasury. The Secretariat also includes international "Zone Representatives": Western and Eastern Europe, South and North America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. These representatives act as liasons between the Secretariat and the national coordinators. The Oblate Assistants and Zone Representatives will serve for the entire duration of the Secretary General's term. Assistants and Zone Representatives may resign or be relieved of their duties during the Secretary General's term, either on their own initiative or by the sole decision of the Abbot Delegate's delegate, after approval by the Abbot Primate. The Secretariat, thus constituted, develops the themes to be discussed and the work program for the international congress. The Secretary, in agreement with the delegate of the Abbot Primate, convenes a session of national coordinators at least once every five years, during the preparations for the international congress, to submit the themes and program to be addressed. The session of coordinators makes suggestions for improving the themes and program and commits to fully cooperating in achieving the established objectives. The Secretariat, through the treasurer and Saint Anselm (Rome), is committed to creating a fund to support the organization of the international congress. The cooperation of all is requested. The structure of the Secretariat may evolve as it develops in order to increase its effectiveness. We will keep you regularly informed of the initiatives of our secretariat serving the Benedictine . Chers frères et soeurs oblats de la famille bénédictine, Le 8 avril 2026 Le 28 novembre 2025, dans la suite du Synode des abbés-présidents de notre Ordre, le Père AbbéPrimat me nommait comme son délégué afin de favoriser le lien entre les oblats du monde entier et commencer à travailler à l’organisation du prochain Congrès International des oblats. Dans un deuxième temps, un secrétariat international pour les Oblats Bénédictins a été créé et le Dr. Roberto Lomolino, oblat de Saint-Anselme à Rome, en a été nommé le Secrétaire Général. Roberto Lomolino et moi-même vous adressons ce message pour préciser les contours de notre mission. Il faut rappeler que l’Abbé primat de l’Ordre bénédictin n'entretient aucune relation formelle ou canonique avec les oblats. Et l’on sait l’importance, sans cesse rappelée, de l’attachement privilégié de chaque oblat à son propre monastère. Cependant, on a pu constater ces dernières années une progression du mouvement des oblats avec un désir de plus en plus fort de communion fraternelle entre eux et au niveau mondial. Il nous est donc demandé de favoriser une coordination ouverte entre tous et en lien avec l’ensemble de la famille bénédictine. Ainsi, le délégué de l’abbé-primat remplit un rôle de coordination informel pour les oblats, rôle que l'abbé primat ne peut assumer, occupé par d'autres fonctions à des niveaux variés. L’abbé-délégué fait donc ce que pourrait faire l’abbé-primat, en prenant régulièrement son avis, mais aussi en ayant la liberté de développer des initiatives. La tâche la plus évidente à ce jour, est l'organisation d'un congrès international des oblats et la participation au jubilé bénédictin. Toutes les initiatives doivent être menées en vue de ces deux objectifs. Le secrétaire général agit en coordination avec l’abbé-délégué. Pour l’instant, le secrétariat porte le nom de « Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum » (SIOB). Nous verrons s’il est nécessaire de le faire évoluer. Dans l’immédiat, nous proposons que les responsables ou un représentant désigné par eux des différentes oblatures nationales ou régionales puissent se réunir à Rome en 2027 pour décider ensemble des contours d’un congrès international à Rome, dans le prolongement de l’année jubilaire, en 2030. Pour atteindre les deux objectifs susmentionnés, le Secrétariat (SIOB) se dotera de la structure suivante. Structure SIOB : Le Secrétariat poursuit les objectifs indiqués par l'Abbé Primat. L'Abbé Délégué est le suppléant de l'abbé primat. Le Secrétaire Général, en accord avec l'Abbé Délégué, met en œuvre les actions nécessaires à la réalisation des objectifs. Le Secrétaire Général, en accord avec l’Abbé Délégué, fera appel à trois oblats, appelés « Assistants », issus de monastères de la Confédération Bénédictine. Ces personnes volontaires sont ainsi amenés à assister le Secrétariat dans les activités suivantes : 1) Communication/Presse/Site web/Réseaux sociaux ; 2) Archivage des documents ; 3) Trésorerie. Le Secrétariat comprend également des « Représentants de Zone » internationaux : Europe de l'Ouest et de l'Est, Amérique du Sud et du Nord, Asie, Afrique et Océanie. Les Assistants et les représentants de zone peuvent démissionner ou être relevés de leurs fonctions pendant le mandat du Secrétaire Général, soit de leur propre initiative, soit sur décision exclusive du délégué de l’Abbé-Primat, après approbation de l'Abbé Primat. Le Secrétariat ainsi constitué élabore les thèmes à débattre et le programme de travail du congrès international. Le Secrétaire, en accord avec le délégué de l'Abbé Primat, convoque une session des coordinateurs nationaux au moins une fois tous les cinq ans, lors des préparatifs du congrès international, afin de soumettre les thèmes et le programme qui y seront abordés. La session des coordinateurs formule des suggestions pour améliorer les thèmes et le programme et s'engage à coopérer pleinement à la réalisation des objectifs fixés. Le Secrétariat s'engage, par l'intermédiaire du trésorier et Saint-Anselme (Rome), à créer un fonds destiné à soutenir l'organisation du congrès international. La coopération de tous est sollicitée. La structure du Secrétariat pourra évoluer au fil de son développement afin d'en accroître l’efficacité. Nous vous tiendrons régulièrement informés des initiatives de notre secrétariat au service des oblatures bénédictines. Cari fratelli e sorelle Oblati della famiglia benedettina, 8 aprile 2026 Il 28 novembre 2025, a seguito del Sinodo degli Abati Presidenti del nostro Ordine, l’Abate Primate mi ha nominato suo delegato per promuovere i contatti tra gli Oblati di tutto il mondo e per iniziare a lavorare all’organizzazione del prossimo Congresso Internazionale degli Oblati. Successivamente, è stato istituito un segretariato internazionale per gli Oblati Benedettini e il Dott. Roberto Lomolino, Oblato di Sant’Anselmo a Roma, ne è stato nominato Segretario Generale. Roberto Lomolino e io vi scriviamo per illustrarvi la nostra missione. È importante ricordare che l’Abate Primate dell’Ordine Benedettino non intrattiene alcun rapporto formale o canonico con gli oblati. E conosciamo l’importanza, costantemente sottolineata, dello speciale attaccamento di ogni oblato al proprio monastero. Tuttavia, negli ultimi anni abbiamo assistito a una crescita del movimento oblato, con un desiderio sempre più forte di comunione fraterna tra di loro e su scala globale. Ci viene quindi chiesto di promuovere un coordinamento aperto tra tutti, in collegamento con l’intera famiglia benedettina. Il delegato dell’Abate Primate svolge un ruolo informale di coordinamento per gli oblati, un ruolo che l’Abate Primate non può assumere, essendo occupato da altre funzioni a vari livelli. L’Abate delegato fa quindi ciò che l’Abate Primate potrebbe fare, consultandosi regolarmente con il suo parere, ma avendo anche la libertà di sviluppare attività di propria iniziativa. Il compito più ovvio al momento è l’organizzazione di un congresso internazionale degli Oblati e la partecipazione al Giubileo Benedittino. Tutte le iniziative devono essere intraprese tenendo presenti questi due obiettivi. Il Segretario Generale agisce in coordinamento con l’Abate Delegato. Per il momento, il segretariato si chiama; Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum. Vedremo se sarà il caso di cambiare questo nome. Nell’immediato futuro, proponiamo che i responsabili, o un rappresentante da loro designato, dei vari Oblati nazionali o regionali si incontrino a Roma nel 2027 per decidere insieme il quadro di un congresso internazionale a Roma, dopo l’Anno Giubilare, nel 2030. Per raggiungere questi due obiettivi, il Segretariato (SIOB) si dota della seguente statuto. Struttura del SIOB Il Segretariato persegue gli obiettivi indicati dall’Abate Primate. Responsabili L’Abate Delegato è il sostituto dell’Abate Primate. Il Segretario Generale, d’intesa con l’Abate Delegato, attua le azioni necessarie per raggiungere gli obiettivi. Componenti Il Segretario Generale, d’intesa con l’Abate Delegato, nomina tre oblati, chiamati « Assistenti », provenienti dai monasteri della Confederazione Benedettina. Questi oblati volontari assistono il Segretariato nelle seguenti attività: 1) Comunicazione/Stampa/Sito web/Social media; 2) Archiviazione documenti; 3) Tesoreria. Il Segretariato nomina anche i « Rappresentanti di Zona » internazionali riferiti alle seguenti aree: Europa Occidentale e Orientale, America Meridionale e Settentrionale, Asia, Africa e Oceania. Questi rappresentanti fungono da collegamento tra il Segretariato e i coordinatori nazionali. Gli Assistenti Oblati e i Rappresentanti di Zona rimangono in carica per l’intero mandato del Segretario Generale. Gli Assistenti e i rappresentanti di zona possono dimettersi dai loro incarichi durante il mandato del Segretario Generale, di propria iniziativa o per decisione esclusiva del delegato dell’Abate, previa approvazione dell’Abate Primate. Attività Il Segretariato elabora i temi da discutere e il programma di lavoro per il congresso internazionale. Il Segretario, d’accordo con il delegato dell’Abate Primate, convoca una sezione di coordinatori nazionali almeno una volta ogni cinque anni, durante la preparazione del congresso internazionale, per presentare i temi e il programma da affrontare. La sezione di coordinatori formula suggerimenti per migliorare i temi e il programma e si impegna a collaborare pienamente al raggiungimento degli obiettivi stabiliti. Il Segretariato si avvale di un sito web dedicato per fornire informazioni sulle iniziative in corso. Il Segretariato, tramite il tesoriere, si impegna a creare un fondo per sostenere l’organizzazione del congresso internazionale. È richiesta la collaborazione di tutti. Note La struttura del Segretariato potrà evolversi man mano che si svilupperà, al fine di aumentarne L’efficienza. Vi terremo regolarmente informati sulle iniziative del nostro Segretariato a servizio degli Oblati Benedettini. April 2026 Liebe Oblatenbrüder und -schwestern der Benediktinerfamilie, Am 28. November 2025, im Anschluss an die Synode der Äbte und Präsidenten unseres Ordens, ernannte mich der Abt und Primas zu seinem Delegierten, um die Verbindungen zwischen den Oblaten weltweit zu fördern und die Vorbereitungen für den nächsten Internationalen Kongress der Oblaten einzuleiten. Daraufhin wurde ein internationales Sekretariat für die Benediktineroblaten gegründet, und Dr. Roberto Lomolino, ein Oblate von St. Anselm in Rom, wurde zu dessen Generalsekretär ernannt. Roberto Lomolino und ich schreiben Ihnen, um den Umfang unserer Mission zu erläutern. Es ist wichtig zu beachten, dass der Abtprimas des Benediktinerordens keine formelle oder kanonische Beziehung zu den Oblaten unterhält. Wir wissen um die Bedeutung der besonderen Verbundenheit jedes einzelnen Oblaten mit seinem Kloster, die immer wieder betont wird. In den letzten Jahren haben wir jedoch ein Wachstum der Oblatenbewegung erlebt, verbunden mit einem zunehmend starken Wunsch nach brüderlicher Gemeinschaft untereinander und weltweit. Wir sind daher aufgerufen, die offene Koordination zwischen allen Oblaten und innerhalb der gesamten Benediktinerfamilie zu fördern. Der Delegat des Abtprimas übernimmt daher eine informelle Koordinierungsrolle für die Oblaten – eine Rolle, die der Abtprimas aufgrund seiner vielfältigen Aufgaben nicht wahrnehmen kann. Der Abtdelegat tut somit das, was der Abtprimas tun könnte: Er berät sich regelmäßig mit ihm, hat aber auch die Freiheit, eigene Initiativen zu entwickeln. Die wichtigste Aufgabe ist derzeit die Organisation eines internationalen Kongresses der Oblaten und die Teilnahme am Benediktinerjubiläum. Alle Initiativen müssen unter Berücksichtigung dieser beiden Ziele durchgeführt werden. Der Generalsekretär arbeitet in Abstimmung mit dem Abtdelegierten. Das Sekretariat trägt vorläufig den Namen „Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum“ (SIOB). Wir werden prüfen, ob eine Namensänderung erforderlich wird. Wir schlagen vor, dass sich die Oberhäupter der verschiedenen nationalen und regionalen Oblatenorganisationen oder deren Vertreter im Jahr 2027 in Rom treffen, um gemeinsam über den Rahmen für einen internationalen Kongress in Rom im Anschluss an das Jubiläumsjahr 2030 zu entscheiden. Um die beiden genannten Ziele zu erreichen, wird das Sekretariat (SIOB) folgende Struktur annehmen: Struktur des SIOB: Das Sekretariat verfolgt die vom Abtprimas festgelegten Ziele. Der Abtdelegierte ist der Stellvertreter des Abtprimas. Der Generalsekretär setzt in Abstimmung mit dem Abtdelegierten die zur Erreichung der Ziele notwendigen Maßnahmen um. Der Generalsekretär beruft in Absprache mit dem Abtdelegierten drei Oblaten aus den Klöstern der Benediktinerkonföderation zu „Assistenten“. Diese Freiwilligen unterstützen das Sekretariat bei folgenden Aufgaben: 1) Kommunikation/Presse/Website/Soziale Medien; 2) Dokumentenarchivierung; 3) Finanzen. Dem Sekretariat gehören außerdem internationale „Zonenvertreter“ für West- und Osteuropa, Süd- und Nordamerika, Asien, Afrika und Ozeanien an. Diese Vertreter fungieren als Bindeglied zwischen dem Sekretariat und den nationalen Koordinatoren. Die Oblaten-Assistenten und Zonenvertreter bleiben während der gesamten Amtszeit des Generalsekretärs im Amt. Assistenten und Zonenvertreter können während der Amtszeit des Generalsekretärs entweder auf eigene Initiative oder durch einen Beschluss des Abtdelegierten nach Zustimmung des Abtprimas zurücktreten oder von ihren Aufgaben entbunden werden. Das so zusammengesetzte Sekretariat erarbeitet die Diskussionsthemen und das Arbeitsprogramm für den internationalen Kongress. Der Sekretär beruft in Absprache mit dem Abtdelegierten des Abtprimas mindestens alle fünf Jahre im Rahmen der Vorbereitungen für den internationalen Kongress eine Sitzung der nationalen Koordinatoren ein, um die Themen und das Programm zu erarbeiten. Die Koordinatoren geben Anregungen zur Verbesserung der Themen und des Programms und verpflichten sich zur uneingeschränkten Zusammenarbeit bei der Erreichung der festgelegten Ziele. Das Sekretariat setzt sich über den Schatzmeister und über Sant’ Anselmo (Rom) für die Einrichtung eines Fonds zur Unterstützung der Organisation des internationalen Kongresses ein. Die Mitarbeit aller ist erwünscht. Die Struktur des Sekretariats kann sich im Zuge seiner Weiterentwicklung anpassen, um seine Effektivität zu steigern. Wir werden Sie regelmäßig über die Initiativen unseres Sekretariats für die Benediktineroblatren informieren. Vielen Dank für Ihre Mitarbeit an diesem Projekt, das die Bedeutung der Zugehörigkeit aller Getauften zur kirchlichen Gemeinschaft – inspiriert von unserem heiligen Vater, dem heiligen Benedikt – hervorheben möchte. Queridos hermanos y hermanas oblatos de la familia benedictina: 8 de abril de 2026 El 28 de noviembre de 2025, tras el Sínodo de los Abades Presidentes de nuestra Orden, el Abad Primado me nombró su delegado para fomentar las conexiones entre los oblatos de todo el mundo y comenzar a trabajar en la organización del próximo Congreso Internacional de Oblatos. Posteriormente, se estableció un secretariado internacional para los Oblatos Benedictinos, y el Dr. Roberto Lomolino, oblato de San Anselmo en Roma, fue nombrado su Secretario General. Roberto Lomolino y yo les escribimos para aclarar el alcance de nuestra misión. Es importante recordar que el Abad Primado de la Orden Benedictina no tiene ninguna relación formal ni canónica con los Oblatos. Y conocemos la importancia, constantemente enfatizada, del especial apego de cada oblato a su propio monasterio. Sin embargo, en los últimos años hemos presenciado un crecimiento del movimiento oblato, con un deseo cada vez mayor de comunión fraterna entre ellos y a escala global. Por lo tanto, se nos pide que fomentemos una coordinación abierta entre todos los oblatos y en conexión con toda la familia benedictina. El Secretariado, así constituido, elabora los temas de debate y el programa de trabajo del congreso internacional. El Secretario, de acuerdo con el delegado del Abad Primado, convoca una sesión de coordinadores nacionales al menos una vez cada cinco años, durante la preparación del congreso internacional, para presentar los temas y el programa que se abordarán. La sesión de coordinadores presenta sugerencias para mejorar los temas y el programa y se compromete a cooperar plenamente para alcanzar los objetivos establecidos. El Secretariado, a través del tesorero y de San Anselmo (Roma), se compromete a crear un fondo para apoyar la organización del congreso internacional. Se solicita la cooperación de todos. La estructura del Secretariado podrá evolucionar a medida que se desarrolle para aumentar su eficacia. Los mantendremos informados periódicamente sobre las iniciativas de nuestro secretariado al servicio de las oblaturas benedictinas. Internacional dos Oblatos Beneditinos Abadia de Santo Anselmo Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta Roma, Itália Ao responsável pelos oblatos, caso o mosteiro os possua. 8 de abril de 2026 Prezados irmãos e irmãs oblatos da família beneditina, Em 28 de novembro de 2025, após o Sínodo dos Abades-Presidentes de nossa Ordem, o Abade Primaz me nomeou seu delegado para fomentar a conexão entre os oblatos em todo o mundo e iniciar os trabalhos de organização do próximo Congresso Internacional dos Oblatos. Posteriormente, foi instituído um secretariado internacional para os oblatos beneditinos, e o Dr. Roberto Lomolino, oblato de Santo Anselmo, em Roma, foi nomeado seu Secretário-Geral. Roberto Lomolino e eu escrevemos para esclarecer o escopo de nossa missão. É importante lembrar que o Abade Primaz da Ordem Beneditina não possui vínculo formal ou canônico com os oblatos. Sabemos da importância, constantemente enfatizada, do vínculo especial de cada oblato com seu próprio mosteiro. No entanto, nos últimos anos, temos testemunhado o crescimento do movimento oblato, com um desejo cada vez maior de comunhão fraterna entre seus membros em nível global. Somos, portanto, chamados a promover uma coordenação aberta entre todos os oblatos, em conexão com toda a família beneditina. Assim, o delegado do Abade Primaz desempenha um papel informal de coordenação para os oblatos — função que o próprio Abade Primaz não pode assumir, devido às suas diversas responsabilidades. O Delegado do Abade desempenha, assim, aquilo que o Abade Primaz poderia fazer, consultando-o regularmente, mas também tendo liberdade para desenvolver iniciativas. A tarefa mais evidente no momento é a organização de um congresso internacional de oblatos e a participação no Jubileu beneditino. Todas as iniciativas devem ser realizadas tendo em vista esses dois objetivos. O Secretário-Geral atua em coordenação com o Delegado do Abade. Por ora, o secretariado se denomina “Secretariatus Internationalis Oblatorum Benedictinorum” (SIOB). Avaliaremos posteriormente a necessidade de alteração desse nome. Em um futuro próximo, propomos que os responsáveis — ou um representante por eles designado — dos diversos grupos nacionais e regionais de oblatos se reúnam em Roma, em 2027, para decidir conjuntamente sobre a estrutura de um congresso internacional a ser realizado após o Ano Jubilar de 2030. Para atingir os dois objetivos mencionados, o Secretariado (SIOB) adotará a seguinte estrutura: Estrutura do SIOB: O Secretariado busca atingir os objetivos definidos pelo Abade Primaz. O Abade Delegado é o adjunto do Abade Primaz. O Secretário-Geral, em comum acordo com o Abade Delegado, implementa as ações necessárias para atingir os objetivos. O Secretário-Geral, em comum acordo com o Abade Delegado, convocará três oblatos, denominados “Assistentes”, provenientes de mosteiros da Confederação Beneditina. Esses voluntários auxiliam o Secretariado nas seguintes atividades: 1. Comunicação / Imprensa / Site / Mídias sociais; 2. 3. Arquivamento de documentos; Tesouraria. O Secretariado também inclui “Representantes de Zona” internacionais: Europa Ocidental e Oriental, América do Norte e do Sul, Ásia, África e Oceania. Esses representantes atuam como elo entre o Secretariado e os coordenadores nacionais. Os Assistentes Oblatos e os Representantes de Zona permanecem em seus cargos durante todo o mandato do Secretário-Geral. Os Assistentes e Representantes de Zona podem renunciar ou ser exonerados de suas funções durante o mandato do Secretário-Geral, por iniciativa própria ou por decisão do Abade Delegado, mediante aprovação do Abade Primaz. O Secretariado, por meio do tesoureiro e da Abadia de Santo Anselmo (Roma), empenha-se na criação de um fundo para apoiar a organização do congresso internacional. Solicita-se a colaboração de todos. A estrutura do Secretariado poderá evoluir à medida que se desenvolve, a fim de aumentar sua eficácia. Manteremos todos regularmente informados sobre as iniciativas de nossa secretaria a serviço dos oblatos beneditinos.
