Friday 20th November 7pm
Just three weeks until Lardal Kantori will be with us again at Bergh Apton Church

This fantastic choir from southern Norway will be with us for their 10th visit. They’ll be singing Since early summer they’ve been rehearsing some new pieces to give us, and we look forward to a lot of old favourites too.

The choir always includes the beautiful Irish blessing in their programme. sung in Norwegian and English.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

As they left to return to their hotel last year, they sang it again as they processed down the church.

Tickets £12 to include refreshments after the concert, when there will be time to chat to members of the choir

We are expecting this to be a popular event so we do encourage you to book ahead if you can. please – by phone 01508 480576 (an answer machine will greet you, but start to speak and you might end up speaking with a human(!) – if not, please leave a message)

If you'd been thinking about coming to the Serendipity concert on Saturday evening, but didn't,
YOU MISSED A SUPERB CHOIR!
When I saw them in Surlingham church last year, I thought they would sound brilliant in Bergh Apton. They absolutely did!
We enjoyed a very mixed repertoire – from folk songs to 19th century pieces and some John Rutter compositions/arrangements. From Eric Clapton, Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkel to music from the shows/films and a finale featuring Nellie the Elephant!

To allow their voices an occasional rest, we were also treated to some wonderful flute & piano duets.

Serendipity currently have no online presence so I attach a couple of videos accompanied by apologies for the limitations of an iPhone in my unskilled hands, and pair of irritating points of light jiggle around on the recordings – the result of flare from some small lights on the pulpit. Close your eyes and they go away!

These two are a folk song - Till the stars fall from the sky, and Chattanooga choo choo. Any subtitles are due to AI invasion rather than my input, the words are incomplete and inaccurate!
More videos to follow on a separate post.

Not long to go until our next concert - but still time to book your tickets

On Saturday 17th October (7pm), Serendipity will be with us.

Many of the ladies in this brilliant upper-voice choir are conservatoire trained, some are soloists in their own right, some run their own choirs. All are highly experienced and expert singers.
Under their director, Andrew Mildinhall, they will present a wide-ranging repertoire – anything from 16th century motets to Eric Clapton, with Schubert, Elgar, Elton John, Abba, Lennon & McCartney and songs from musical theatre in between.
Andrew was, for 12 years, Director of Music at the collegiate church of St Mary, Nantwich. He has also worked with the Northern Sinfonia, the Manchester Camerata and the 18th Century Concert Orchestra and many well-known singers.
We can expect a highly polished and enjoyable evening – and refreshments too.
Tickets £12
Advance booking really helps us to plan the catering –
email [email protected]
or call 01508 480576 (you’ll be greeted by an answer machine but start to speak and you might find a human there! Please leave a message if not)
But we can take cash at the door.
Online bookings via Eventbrite too –

What a fantastic evening we had on Saturday evening, thanks to the Pot of Gold Shanty Crew!
They treated us to a few compositions of their own, as well as any number of traditional and well-known favourites, with our audience of 100 participating enthusiastically and with gusto.

The Crew has been a supporter of the Mundsley Volunteer Inshore Lifeboat and brought their collecting bucket along with them. Our appreciative audience donated just over £192 to the cause.

They have a few public gigs ahead of them this year and, if you missed them this time, I really would recommend that you catch them when you can - check out their website for details

So, to Roger, Viv, Dave, Adam, Norman, Alan & John (Ian and Ester we're sorry we missed you from the Crew this time), many many thanks.

There's only so much that a technophobe can achieve with an iPhone but here are some snaps & videos of the evening.

Coming soon to a church near you .................

Pot of Gold Shanty Crew return to Bergh Apton Church for a concert at 7pm Saturday 5th September

Often spotted entertaining folk around quaysides, piers, harbours, and shanty festivals, this engaging bunch are not averse to being brought in from 'The Wild' to perform in enclosed spaces too! They regularly sing in theatres, clubs, churches and pubs.

They brought their special Shanty Magic to us in 2023, delighting their audience then, and we're really looking forward to their doing it again. They perform traditional and not so traditional shanties and other songs from the sea.

Accompanied by banjo and guitar, we'll enjoy a great sound, a fair bit of banter, audience participation and fun - Why don't you join us? There's ample parking in the grassed field adjacent to the church.
Refreshments are included in the £12 ticket. We expect this to be a popular event so its best to book in advance if you can.

Call 01508 480576 (start leaving a message on the dreaded answer machine and you might be interrupted by a human - otherwise brace yourself and leave a message)
