This Is Life

This Is Life 'This is Life' is an initiative run by local churches in Norfolk in partnership with the Newday youth event that takes place at the Norfolk Showground.

‘This is Life’ is an initiative run by local churches in Norfolk in conjunction with the Newday Christian festival (www.newdaygeneration.org ). In August each year, between 5000-6000 young people aged between 12-19 from across the UK will be gathering for Newday, a week’s camping at the Norfolk Showground for meetings, seminars, sports, social activities, music, gigs and much more. The ‘This is Li

fe’ initiative teams up the young volunteers attending Newday with local churches to help serve and undertake social action projects that impact and benefit local communities. These projects, which are often delivered in partnership with Local Councils and Police Authorities, not only benefit the communities but are also a great learning opportunity and experience for these young volunteers. Projects that are typically run are: clearing up litter and rubbish; running sports activities for local young people; running a kids holiday club; tidying up gardens for local residents; painting over graffiti; a community fun day; car washing etc. This is life website: http://www.thisislife.org.uk/

We are still receiving feedback from the residents in Norfolk of the effect of Newday outreach. Here's an email we received as thanks for all the hard work in one of the city estates.

"We have just had a most uplifting experience in Mile Cross, Norwich. I refer to the hard and efficient work of the young people organised by Newday. They have come to Norfolk from many other areas and set about doing all manner of gardening, including fence, hedge and path clearance work. The impact of their efforts has been very marked here.

There was a knock at our door this morning, with Newday people asking if I would like some garden work doing, even at this eleventh hour of their stay in Norwich. Soon afterwards a young "groundforce" descended on our unkempt front hedge, trimmed it and scooped away the mess. I asked them, poker faced, whose name they had just done all that work in, to which they spontaneously boomed back: "JESUS!" Their selfless cheerfulness is surely an example to people of all ages."

Well done all of you who served this year in outreach!!

Look how far newday travels! These kids from a Ugandan sunday school loved their t-shirts which were given to them by one of the This is Life team who is currently in Uganda. How amazing that newday can bless young people in Africa this way.
