It was a delight this morning to have our Archdeacon, Fr David Picken, with us for the celebration of the Assumption of Our Lady. We look forward to seeing him again in three weeks time for the Induction of our new vicar, Fr Adrian Ling.

A New Chapter for Christ Church, Carnforth

We are delighted to be able to share with you that, this morning it was announced that Fr Ryan Otley has been appointed as the next Vicar of Christ Church, Carnforth.

Fr Ryan says that it is a real privilege and joy to be called to continue serving the people of Carnforth and the wider community in this new chapter of ministry. Christ Church is a very special place, and I am incredibly grateful for the welcome, encouragement and support that I have received during my time here over the last 18 months.

There is, as you can imagine, a mixture of excitement, anticipation and probably a little nervousness as I prepare to take on this new responsibility! I would be very grateful for your prayers as I prepare for this next stage of ministry, and especially as we continue to discern together all that God is calling us to be and do as a church.

I am pleased to share that my Collation service as Vicar will take place on Sunday 27th September 2026 at 7.00pm at Christ Church, Carnforth.

I look forward to celebrating this important moment with our parish family, friends, and all those who have supported Christ Church and its ministry. All are welcome to join us for the service.

Please do keep me, our church family, and the people of Carnforth in your prayers as we begin this exciting new chapter together.

153 years old today and happy memories of our 150th birthday when Bishop Glyn came to bless our new and refurbished bells and several previous clergy joined us as well.

We had a beautiful service this morning marking the Patronal Festival of St Anne, baptising George into the church family, and celebrating 30 years since our amazing Heritage Mural was dedicated. Fr Brian Mayne skilfully wove all of these elements together during the service, and blessed the Mural at the start of the service.

Fr Brian's prayer:
Gracious Creator, we thank you for the gift of creativity,
for the hands and hearts that have woven this mural
and for the story it carries in every thread.
Today, we set it apart for a purpose of beauty, remembrance and inspiration.
May it be more than fabric - may it be a witness to love, a reminder of hope, and a reflection of Your light.
Bless all who gaze upon it, that they may feel peace in their spirit and joy in their heart.
Let this tapestry stand as a symbol of unity, patience, and the weaving together of lives in harmony.
In Your name, we re-dedicate it. Amen. 🙏🏼

This weekend (26th July 2026) we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the dedication of this amazing Heritage Mural, an embroidery on canvas. It was started in April 1989 and the last stitch was sewn in January 1996. It is an incredible work of art by the 28 dedicated broderers and two designers involved in the project, and is indeed to be celebrated as a treasure in St Annes.
