Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, commemorates the Last Supper of our Lord Jesus Christ with His disciples. On this sacred night, Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood. During the Passover meal, He offered bread and wine as His Body and Blood and commanded His disciples, “Do this in remembrance of me,” establishing the Eucharist as the perpetual sacrament of His sacrifice.
Jesus also revealed the depth of His humility and love by washing the feet of His disciples, teaching them to serve one another with charity and selflessness. After the meal, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed in deep anguish as He prepared to face betrayal and arrest.
Holy Thursday begins the Easter Triduum, the most sacred time of the Church’s year, leading us through Good Friday and into the joy of Easter Sunday. 🙏
