Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, commemorates the Last Supper of our Lord Jesus Christ with His disciples. On this sacred night, Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood. During the Passover meal, He offered bread and wine as His Body and Blood and commanded His disciples, “Do this in remembrance of me,” establishing the Eucharist as the perpetual sacrament of His sacrifice.

Jesus also revealed the depth of His humility and love by washing the feet of His disciples, teaching them to serve one another with charity and selflessness. After the meal, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed in deep anguish as He prepared to face betrayal and arrest.

Holy Thursday begins the Easter Triduum, the most sacred time of the Church’s year, leading us through Good Friday and into the joy of Easter Sunday. 🙏

As we enter Holy Week, we reflect on those facing extreme poverty and injustice and thank you for supporting Caritas Australia’s annual Project Compassion Appeal this Lent.
Caritas Australia’s work is made possible through the dedication of local partners, heroes who work tirelessly to create a better future for their communities. This year’s featured partners include:
• Diocese of Mbulu Development Department in Tanzania
• Caritas Bangladesh in Bangladesh
• Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development in Fiji
• Caritas Jerusalem and Catholic Relief Services in Gaza.
Together, we’re helping vulnerable communities build stronger futures and break the cycle of poverty. Thank you for standing with us.
Please return all Project Compassion boxes and envelopes to the parish office as soon as possible or donate online via the Caritas Australia website at www.projectcompassion.org.au/donate

Pope Leo has appointed Archbishop Anthony Randazzo as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts and conferred on him the personal title of archbishop. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Brisbane in 1991 and made lasting contributions during his time as rector of Holy Spirit Seminary Queensland. In the fourth week of Lent, the Project Compassion story features Manaini from Fiji.
Life was hard for Manaini and her children living in rural Fiji. With the support from Caritas Australia’s partner, FRIEND, she learnt food processing and gardening skills, improving nutrition and creating new income opportunities to support her children’s education.

In the third week of Lent, our next Project Compassion story features Monoranjon from Bangladesh.
Monoranjon lives in a village in Bangladesh close to the sea, where floods and storms often damage his crops and his home. With support from Project Compassion, he learnt climate-resilient farming techniques and new ways to diversify his income, helping his family survive and build a safer, more sustainable future.
‘Getting this training from Caritas, I am very happy. In my personal training and with the help of them I have learned a lot,’ Monoranjon said.
