The Brisbane Oratory in Formation

The Brisbane Oratory in Formation The Brisbane Oratory in Formation, established on 26 May 2015 by decree of Archbishop Coleridge, will be Australia's first Congregation of the Oratory.

In mid 2011 an inspiration to work towards establishing the first Australian Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri was conceived. This desire nurtured in prayer has begun to bear fruit. There remains much development and maturation to take place, but by the grace and providence of God we have made a solid beginning. Our emerging community has been called together by the Lord under the pat

ronage of Our Lady, St. Philip Neri, Blessed John Henry Newman and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. We comprise Priests from different Australian Dioceses and two Seminarians who are in formation at the Toronto Oratory. The Priests of our community are grateful for the support and encouragement of our own Bishops. Our Bishops have shown a remarkable sense of unselfish generosity and a broad vision for the needs of the wider Church in Australia, rather than focusing only on their own immediate need for Priests in their Dioceses. Without the support of our individual Bishops an Australian Oratory would not be possible. The Lord’s providence has led us to the Archdiocese of Brisbane as our home or ‘Domus’. A permanent ‘home’ with all that it implies is integral to an Oratorian vocation, apostolate and rule of life. We are very grateful to Archbishop Mark Coleridge for warmly welcoming and encouraging us. We thank him for his support, confidence and vision in giving this project for Priestly community life a chance to succeed. The Archbishop is yet to decide exactly where our home will be in the Archdiocese of Brisbane. One consideration is likely to be the traditional Oratorian apostolate that inspires and unites us together with a common vision and sense of purpose. We seek to further the mission of the Church and give glory to almighty God through a focus on the Solemn Celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, the ministry of the Confessional and the formation of young people in the fullness of the Catholic faith. As Priests we seek to live an Oratorian community life, not for our own benefit, but that we may be better able to serve God’s people. We would also like to gratefully acknowledge the practical and prayerful support we have received from several long established Congregations of the Oratory from around the world. The Fathers of the London, Oxford and Toronto Oratories in particular have provided us with invaluable assistance and encouragement along the way. We sincerely thank them and look forward to the benefit of their continuing guidance and friendship. We invite you to please prayerfully support this new initiative for the Church in Australia in every way you can. We will provide periodic updates on our progress through the ‘latest news’ button of this website. Thank you for taking the time and having the interest to read about our Oratory project for Brisbane. Please do pray for us !

Today we begin nine days of prayer to St Philip Neri, who continues to draw souls to Christ through prayer, friendship, and cheerful holiness. We are asking his powerful intercession for the full establishment and for the good of the Brisbane Oratory, so it may continue to serve the faithful for generations.

How to join:
- Pray the Novena from home (text or printable version available)

Today we commemorate the inauguration of Pope Leo’s pontificate.

Pope Leo was elected Pope on the 8th of May. The formal inauguration of his Pontificate began with his Mass for the Beginning of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome which took place on 18 May 2025.

Let us remember the Holy Father in our prayers today.

O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all the faithful, look propitiously upon Thy servant Leo, whom Thou hast been pleased to appoint pastor over Thy Church: grant, we beseech Thee, that by word and example he may edify those over whom he is set, and together with the flock committed to his care, may attain to eternal life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

If you are coming to the 8:30am Mass tomorrow, Saturday 16/5, or anything else tomorrow, we ask that you please do not park in the lower carpark off Ferndale Street, even if the gates are open, as the school is using that area tomorrow and have asked parishioners not to park there.
Please only use the three marked bays beside the parish office, but otherwise do not park in that area, or in any way block the gates.
This is just for tomorrow, then back to normal from Sunday.
Thank you for your understanding!
