The Feast of the Sacred Heart reminds us of Christ’s infinite outpouring of love for each of us. As we reflect on His compassion, we’re also invited to consider how we can mirror that love to the world. Join us in praying a novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus beginning Wednesday culiminating in the U.S. bishops consecrating the United States to the Sacred Heart.

Did you pick a saint's name to use for your confirmation? While this practice has become a popular tradition, it is not actually required to pick the name of a saint when confirmed. This pious custom, however, is rooted in the idea that one is confirmed (a word which means "strengthened") to be a witness of Christ to the world.

The saints, above all, were witnesses to God. A passage from the Letter to the Hebrews speaks of the saints and says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us."

Thus we are commended to look to the example of God's witnesses -- the saints -- and it makes some sense that we should turn in particular to one of these witnesses to help us fill our own role as a witness.

The Ascension is not an ending—it’s a sending. Christ entrusts His disciples with a mission to all nations, with the promise to remain always. That mission continues today—and we are part of it.

The group Communion and Liberation invites us to The Des Moines Meeting, a daylong opportunity to discover how people encounter God. Learn about a priest on the way to sainthood, from young adults, and hear about the dignity of work. Top it off with hearing the talented classical pianist Brian Billion at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Come for one panel discussion or two, or all of them on Saturday, June 6 at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 601 Grand Ave., in Des Moines. In 1917, Our Lady of Fatima called the world to: Pray. Repent. Return to God.

Her message is still a mission for all.

Today, we join that mission—praying for all nations and all people.

📿 Pray the Rosary for the missions.
