In 1 Kings 18, Elijah stands on Mount Carmel and asks Israel one of the most important questions in Scripture: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him.”
This message challenges us to examine our own hearts and ask: Is my worship divided?

At Mount Carmel, the fire fell on the sacrifice instead of the people. At the cross, the fire of God’s justice fell on Jesus instead of us. Jesus stood in our place, took what we deserved, rose from the grave, and now calls us to stop limping between two opinions and follow Him fully.

This Sunday, we continue The Whole Story with The Rise and Fall of the Kings from 1 Kings 12.

Rehoboam and Jeroboam show us two struggles still alive in our own hearts: pride and fear. One tried to control through power. The other tried to control through fear and compromise. Both were trying to protect their own kingdom instead of surrendering to God’s kingdom.

But 1 Kings 12 points us to a better King: Jesus Christ.
Earthly kings added burdens, but Jesus came to carry the burden of our sin. Rehoboam said, “Serve me, or I will crush you.” Jesus says, “I will be crushed to save you.”

This message is for anyone who has ever felt spiritually distracted, compromised, or pulled in two directions. A divided heart always leads to a divided life. But the good news is that where Solomon failed, Jesus succeeded. Jesus is the greater and true Solomon — perfectly faithful, perfectly wise, and fully devoted to the Father.

In 1 Samuel 8, Israel didn’t stop believing in God—they just stopped trusting Him. They wanted control. We say we trust God… but still hold on to the wall. We want His help… but not His authority.

Every “king” we choose—success, comfort, control—will eventually take from us. But Jesus is different. He didn’t come to take. He came to take your place.
