This week in Deep Roots, we land on a claim from Psalm 119 that’s easy to miss: that we are at our most prosperous when we love God’s Word, not just obey it. Sometimes it feels like the Bible is more of an object of obligation than an object of affection. So what would it take to change that?

I think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of us want our daily schedules to be nice and neat. No surprises! We keep calendars on the fridge, planning apps on our phone, and set reminders to chime on our smart watches. It gives us the illusion that we have some level of control over our lives in a very chaotic world. But in a tick of the clock, the illusion can be shattered and our meticulous planning is turned completely upside down.

This week we will examine scripture from the gospel of Mathew that depicts this very circumstance for the 12 apostilles. Following Jesus is anything but predictable!
