Sermon: "How Can I Give You Up"
Rev. Dr. Bob Thompson, Interim Pastor

08/30/2026

The whole story of the Bible in three words: the Lord reigns.

On our final Sunday in the Psalms this summer, Rev. Dr. Bob Thompson turned the sermon into a Bible study, opening Psalm 96 with three questions: what do you see, why is this here, and how is it useful? Along the way he reframed judgment as good news, a judge coming to set a broken world right, and landed on three takeaways to carry home: worship, witness, and word. He reminded us that the Lord is not only going to reign someday but is reigning right now. It was a fifth-Sunday hymn sing too, so the congregation chose the music section by section, and we blessed a fresh batch of quilts made for children at the Coastal Horizon shelter before closing with "Joy to the World."

Scripture: Psalm 96:1-13, with Isaiah 6:1-5 and Romans 8:18-25.

What if the thing wearing you down is not your sin itself, but the exhausting work of hiding it?

In "The Joy of Forgiveness," Rev. Dr. Tom Murray walked through Psalm 32, where David finally stops hiding and finds that his bones stop aching. Alongside the paralyzed man in Mark 2 who was lowered through a torn-open roof, the sermon showed that Jesus reaches the heart before the body, and that real freedom begins the moment we stop pretending and let ourselves be seen. It was a morning about confession, healing, and the joy of walking out into the light.

Do you know Psalm 23, or do you know the Shepherd?

On Psalm 23 Sunday, Rev. Dr. Bob Thompson preached "God's Got You!" and walked the beloved psalm line by line, not to analyze it but to remind us why we love it. He opened with the old story of a polished actor and a faltering country preacher who each recited the 23rd Psalm, one reaching the head and the other the heart. From the sweetest word "my," to the rod and staff that count each sheep by name, to a goodness and mercy that pursue us all our days, the morning kept coming back to one promise: the Lord is my shepherd, and his name is Jesus. The children recited Psalm 23, a soloist sang "The King of Love," and we lifted the CRIMOND psalm-sing "The Lord's My Shepherd."

Bible Study with Pastor Bob "The Bible Unrolled--Poetry and Prophets"

08/09/2026

When life seems to reward the wrong people and faithfulness feels like a losing battle, where do you turn? In this recorded service from August 9, Gary Galloway preached on Psalm 73 and the honest struggle of Asaph, a worship leader who almost lost his footing until he came into the presence of God. Reading the psalm from the inside out, Gary traced Asaph's move from bitter confusion to a settled joy that could say, "Whom have I in heaven but you?" The morning also brought a children's sermon on God holding our hand wherever we go, the anthem "Morning Has Broken," and the hymns "There Is a Redeemer," "Search Me, O God," and "And Can It Be."
