As the president of Congregation Emanu El here in Wichita, Kansas, I speak with a heavy heart and unwavering resolve in response to the attack on Jews in Sydney. Though oceans separate our communities, the pain is shared, and the message of hate is one we know all too well. We stand in full solidarity with our people in Australia, praying for the injured and reaffirming our commitment to Jewish life lived openly, proudly, and without fear. Antisemitism anywhere is a threat to people of conscience everywhere, and we call on leaders and neighbors alike to confront it with moral clarity and courage.

Here in the heart of Kansas, we live safe and secure Jewish lives thanks to our own caution and the full support and compassion of our non-Jewish neighbors. Let us all resolve to be ever vigilant against hatred and violence in our own communities and in the world.
