Take Your Life Back
Healing What Pain Tried to Take From You Series
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
John 10:10 (NLT)
There comes a moment in healing when you realize:
I survived what happened to me, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life surviving it.
Pain can take more than a moment.
If left unhealed, it can begin taking your peace, your relationships, your dreams, your willingness to trust, your ability to celebrate, and even your expectation that something good can still happen.
You may still be living, working, serving, smiling, and showing up while quietly organizing your life around something that happened years ago.
But Jesus didn’t come so you could simply survive.
He came so you could live.
Taking your life back doesn’t mean pretending the painful chapters never happened. Those experiences are part of your story.
But they do not get to write every chapter that comes next.
You can remember without remaining trapped.
You can acknowledge what happened without building your identity around it.
You can forgive without giving someone continued access to hurt you.
You can establish boundaries without feeling guilty.
You can love again.
Dream again.
Laugh again.
Trust again.
And yes, you can live again.
Healing is not asking you to return to the person you were before the pain.
God may be introducing you to someone you have never met before:
the healed version of you.
The version who knows how to use their voice.
The version who doesn’t need everyone’s approval.
The version who recognizes their worth.
The version who knows when to stay and when to walk away.
The version who can look at what happened and say:
“You were a chapter in my life, but you will not become the rest of my story.”
Pain has occupied enough space.
It has made enough decisions.
It has stolen enough moments.
Take your life back.
Not because nothing happened.
But because what happened doesn’t get to have the final word.
God does.
Healing Action
Ask yourself:
What part of my life have I stopped living because of something that happened to me?
Maybe it’s trusting. Dreaming. Creating. Loving. Resting. Setting boundaries. Trying something new. Or simply allowing yourself to experience joy again.
Choose one small step toward living again.
Then declare:
“What happened to me is part of my story, but it will not control my future. I am healing. I am moving forward. And with God, I am taking my life back.”
