Parking lot project day 21 & 22: Second and final layer of pavement was laid on Monday, and Food Pantry was held on Tuesday. The first photo is actually the last one for Monday, but I liked it so much, I put it first. The rest are in the order they were taken.
First, American Asphalt sprayed on a tack coat, then they took time to mark the parking lot with white paint. All the long straight lines were done the old fashioned way, a long piece of string held straight between two people, while a third marked it with paint.
Then the paving, which had a lot of men very busy, both driving and working on equipment, and also working with hand tools, like shovels and specialized rakes.
They started at 10 in the morning, and finished just after 5. We now have beautiful pavement! But it isn't cured, so it is susceptible to damage. It's really important that we make sure our cars are moving before turning the wheels for the next few weeks.
Despite our food pantry volunteers telling people that, there was still some damage to the lot today. The last two pictures show a couple of the damaged spots. Because of this, we have decided to keep the lot closed one more day to give it a little more time to cure. We'll take up the cones Thursday morning, and we can park on the lot then.
Later, it will be closed a day for striping (possibly Friday or one day next week), then the parking lot resurfacing project will be done!
