A meaningful webinar for the living of these days.

🧊 As Immigration and Custom's Enforcement (ICE) continues to terrorize communities, separate families, and even kill citizens and non-citizens alike as part of this administration’s mass deportation campaign, there is also increased public scrutiny of this country’s detention center system for migrants.

🧊 In 2025 alone, ICE broke records for the number of people who have died in detention, most often due to the horrific conditions and lack of proper medical care. Since this administration's inauguration in 2025, 52 people have died in detention according to Human Rights Watch—four times that of the previous administration.

📣 Join us to learn from UCC pastors and lay leaders as they share how they've taken action and learn what we can do as people of faith to stop detention and continue to resist this deadly system.

On September 13th, Homecoming Sunday, we invite you to bring a dish to share. We especially welcome vegan and gluten-free dishes to ensure that everyone has a variety of foods they can eat. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us. We love breaking bread with newcomers and old friends alike! (Pictured below: Easter pancake breakfast...don't worry, we don't always dress up so fancy!)

This is happening all over the country, and people of faith are speaking out.

People gathered at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ to hear stories from neighbors in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties who are detained there.

Essential workers matter.
Migrant workers matter.
Low-wage workers matter.
Blue Collar workers matter.
Public school workers matter.
Labor justice matters for all of us as we honor the dignity of each one's work.

As DC's children return to school today, a blessing for each and every one of them from Rev. Amanda:
Blessing for a New School Year
May kindness go before you and peace restore you nightly.
May you greet the image of God in yourself and in others.
May genuine friendship grow and may God guard your heart from cruelty.
May the world of your mind hum with questions and possibilities.
May your body be nourished and safe.
May you embody your truest self as often as possible, and may your courage to be authentic call forth the same in others.
May you stand up for the outcast and befriend the lonely.
May you move beyond your comfort zone and there discover a surprising hope.
May you listen to the heart of others as you also listen to your own.
In places where you struggle, may grace greet you.
In sorrow, may you know comfort.
In places where you excel, may there be joy.
May your heart be light, may your spirit shine.
May growth and change widen your horizons with wisdom.
May you be blessed and be a blessing to others.
May goodness and mercy pursue you in every season.
And at the close of each day, may you feel the love of God surrounding you.

What does it mean to bless the backpacks of our children and youth, which we will do on August 30th in worship, in an occupied city? We want them to know that God is always with them and communities like ours are here to support and protect them.

Here's where things stand now.
