In Uganda, Martyrs Day celebrations have been postponed amid concerns over the Ebola outbreak. The annual pilgrimage honors St. Charles Lwanga and his companions, the Uganda Martyrs, whose witness to the faith continues to inspire Catholics around the world.

The Catholic feast of the Uganda Martyrs will still be celebrated globally on June 3. In Uganda, Catholics are being encouraged to celebrate privately or in smaller gatherings as health precautions remain in place.

Please keep the people of Uganda in your prayers.

Uganda has postponed the annual Martyrs’ Day commemorations, set for 3 June, due to Ebola concerns in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

ANALYSIS: A closer look at the four countries on the Pope’s itinerary shows how the Church’s role — before and after independence — has shaped his visit.

The American religious press is recognizing what is already clear on the ground. Africa is central to the life and future of the Church.

This article is a great example, highlighting coverage of the Pope’s upcoming visit.

The pontiff’s visit to Africa highlights the growing importance of the African church within global Catholicism and honors the roots of Western Christianity and Leo’s own order.

We join the Church in mourning the passing of Fr. William Norvel, SSJ, who died at the age of 90.

A faithful priest and pioneering leader, he was the first Black superior general of a U.S. men’s religious community and served the Church with dedication for many decades.

May the Lord welcome him into eternal peace. We keep the Josephites and all who mourn him in our prayers.

Josephite Father William Norvel, a forceful voice for Black Catholic identity who spent more than six decades challenging the institutional church to live up to its claim of being universal, died March 8. He was 90.

When the Missionaries of Africa first came to the Americas in 1901, they came to Quebec. From there, hundreds of Quebecois missionaries were sent to serve in Africa. Today, the Society returns in gratitude and will begin serving at Saint-Roch, Quebec City’s largest church.

The Missionaries of Africa will be taking charge at Saint-Roch as Quebec’s Catholic community is experiencing a resurgence in faith.

We were glad to be there.
