The Enoch Graduate Seminar invites you to a series of workshops this fall aimed at supporting junior scholars in developing book proposals based on their dissertations. Each workshop will focus on one step toward turning a dissertation into a compelling book proposal.

Participants may join any individual workshop or choose to attend all four as a unit. The workshops will feature extended discussions with relevant experts: acquisitions editors, series editors, and authors with recently published monographs. Following these workshops, participants are invited to join a working group that will meet to collaborate on elements of book proposals. We hope that this series will be beneficial for junior scholars who are currently navigating the process of developing a book proposal from their dissertation or who plan to do so in the future.

The Enoch Graduate Seminar brings together graduate students and junior scholars working in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in antiquity to share their work, collaborate with one another, and develop professional contacts. It is housed within the larger Enoch Seminar organization.

The workshops will be hosted on four consecutive Sundays at 4pm EST via Zoom (link shared to those who RSVP).

October 11:
Identifying an Audience and Reaching Them, with Laura Hare (University of Toronto) and Maria Doerfler (Yale University)

October 18:
Finding Presses, Series, and Editors, with Sarit Kattan Gribetz (Yale University, editor of Brill’s Jewish Studies Series).

October 25:
Proposing Your Book within a Market, with Katelyn Chin (Senior Acquisitions Editor, Brill)

November 1:
Naming Your Contribution, with Tony Keddie (UT Austin, editor Supplements to the Journal for the Study of Judaism)
