CELEBRATION OF SAINTS OF AFRICA
Saturday, June 7TH, 2025
Over the last 15 years, following a tradition of celebrating the feast day of St. Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs of Uganda, we come together in the first week of June every year to commemorate the wealth of saints and other inspirational Africans who are included in our Catholic tradition. We celebrate and pay homage to the many Saints of African descent, Blesseds, Venerables, and Servants of God of blessed memory.
This year, as we come together to celebrate Saints of African Descent, we will begin our celebrations by giving thanks for the life of Pope Francis and praying for Pope Leo XIV our new bishop of Rome and head of the Church, whose motto reflects the Augustinian tradition: In Illo uno unum, which means “In the One, we are one.” The phrase is taken from Saint Augustine’s Exposition on Psalm 127, where he explains that “although we Christians are many, in the one Christ we are one.”
Come join us with open hearts. Let's heal our world as we celebrate our Saints with Song and Praise in an African Mass at Resurrection Church (Resurrection Catholic Church ), on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
