What does it mean to say yes to who God created us to be? This week we continue our summer worship series, Godly Artists: The Role of Creativity in All of Us, as we welcome Rev. Michael A. Parker from Asbury UMC in Annapolis. Drawing from Psalm 139:1–14, Rev. Michael will invite us to reflect on the God who knows us fully, searches us deeply, and creates us wonderfully.

Psalm 139 reminds us that before we ever create, perform, serve, or prove anything, we are already known by and beloved to God. Our lives themselves are works of divine artistry, shaped with care, wonder, and holy intention. In a world that often teaches us to question our worth, hide our gifts, or shrink back from who we are, this Psalm offers the sacred affirmation that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Join us this week as we discover how saying “yes” to God’s creative work in us can open the door to deeper joy, greater courage, and a fuller expression of the gifts God has placed within each of us.

What can poetry teach us about hope?

This week we continue our summer worship series, Godly Artists: The Role of Creativity in All of Us, as we welcome guest preacher Rev. Dr. Wanda Bynum Duckett. Drawing from Jeremiah 29:1–11, Wanda will explore the power of creative resistance through the arts of poetry and the spoken word.

Written to a people living in exile, Jeremiah's letter calls God's people to seek life, cultivate hope, and imagine a future beyond the circumstances that surround them. Through the spoken-word tradition of Sacred Slam Poetry, Rev. Dr. Duckett will invite us to consider how creativity can become an act of faithfulness and help us tell the truth, sustain hope, and proclaim God's promises even in difficult times.

Join us as we discover how God continues to inspire courage, imagination, and new possibilities through the creative gifts placed within each of us.

Psalm 33:1-12

What can jazz teach us about faith?

This week we will welcome Rev. Charles Anderson-Gray as we continue our summer worship series, Godly Artists: The Role of Creativity in All of Us. Drawing from Psalm 33 and the invitation to "sing a new song" and play skillfully before God, Charles will explore how music offers a powerful image for the spiritual life—one rooted in listening, trust, creativity, and faithful improvisation.

Our worship will take a different shape this week as we gather in the Fellowship Hall for a Taizé-style service of prayer, song, reflection, and Holy Communion. We are also honored to celebrate a special milestone as Charles presides at the Lord's Table for after completing the ordination process and being ordained in full connection as an Elder in the UMC.

Join us as we discover how God's Spirit continues to create something beautiful through our lives, even when the music isn't written out in advance.
