Christ Church in the City

Christ Church in the City Mission: To make and teach disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of Southwest DC. Vision: To be a pinnacle of Christ's love in Ward 6.

Welcome to our page! Christ United Methodist Church is excited about living our faith in our local community and the world. We celebrate the richness of God's blessings in our worship and ministries aimed at transforming lives through Jesus Christ. We want to be "unashamed disciples" for Jesus Christ. We are located in a vibrant, changing, and growing neighborhood in southwest Washington.

So, sharing the powerful message of how God makes a difference in our lives is even more important to us. We, too, embrace change as a transforming experience in Jesus Christ, and are changing to meet the expanding needs in our community. Our congregation has historically taken the lead in transforming lives. Today, we are building on this wonderful history and continue to celebrate God by connecting with others and sharing our faith. Join us for worship, Disciple Bible Study, or any of the other ministries you may find of interest on our web site.

Sermon Recap Reflection & Prayer

Sermon Title: Dreaming God’s Dream Again
Based on Genesis 28:10–22, Matthew 1:18–25, Romans 8:18–22

Reflection Question (Communal):

✨As a church family, where is God calling us to dream again?

✨What hopes, ministries, relationships, or acts of justice and compassion might God be awakening among us, even in seasons of uncertainty, delay, or waiting?

Prayer:
Gracious God,
You met Jacob in a low place, guided Joseph through uncertainty, and gave hope to a groaning world through Your promise of redemption. Awaken us by Your Spirit to dream Your dreams once more. Where we have grown weary, renew our strength. Where we have settled for less than Your vision, expand our faith. Where hope has been delayed, remind us that Your promises remain sure.

As a community of believers, help us to trust Your presence, follow Your leading, and participate in Your work of restoration. May we dream not for ourselves alone, but for the flourishing of our neighbors, our church, and Your world. Give us courage to hope, wisdom to discern, and faith to follow wherever You lead.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We have reached the halfway point of the year. Like any marathon, arriving at a checkpoint is a reminder to do a hydration check.

In our spiritual journey, we are also called to examine the hydration of our souls and drink deeply from the living water Christ offers. Just as water is essential for physical health, the living water of Jesus Christ is vital for our growth as disciples.

Before taking another step, may we be renewed and refreshed for the journey ahead.

Ways to “hydrate the soul” include prayer, reading Scripture, worship, rest, confession, and staying connected to both the church and the world around us.

“But those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty.” — John 4:14a (NRSV)

🔥 Motivational Monday Moment 🔥

The fire of God does not come to destroy us—it comes to call us, shape us, and send us forward in purpose. Just as Moses encountered God in the burning bush, we are reminded that God still speaks, still equips, and still calls ordinary people to extraordinary purpose.

This week, may we:
🙏 Pray boldly
❤️ Serve joyfully
💬 Speak courageously
🚶 Walk faithfully

Together, let us step closer to the fire of God’s presence and trust Him to guide us forward.

🙏🏾 Motivational Monday Moment 🙏🏾

Before we do anything… we should pray.

In John 17, Jesus paused to pray before facing the cross. He centered himself on God, recalled God’s blessings, and prayed for those he loved. If Jesus took time to pray in difficult moments, then we can too.

Prayer is not just a ritual — it is a lifeline.
It keeps us grounded when life feels overwhelming, strengthens us when we feel weak, and reminds us that we are never alone.

This week:
✨ Center yourself on God
✨ Recall God’s blessings
✨ Encourage someone through prayer

“No prayer = no power
Little prayer = little power
Much prayer = much power.”

May we never become too busy, distracted, or overwhelmed to take the time to pray.
